This is an old idea re-vamped, although it's so many years ago that I saw the original version I can't remember anything except the gameplay. The idea is to reduce the size of the original play area by gradually blocking off sections of it, capturing bugs as you go, and trying to finish drawing the dividing lines before any of these bugs can hit them.(confused? - it's easier to play than to describe). The graphics are big and friendly, the music bouncy and rather daft, and the game itself is a lot of fun. It doesn't tax the brain very much, but it doesn't pretend to. Most importantly, it really is a casual game, which you can play for the odd ten or fifteen minutes now and then, and then leave it alone. There are some added gimmicks, which you may or may not care for, but they don't really matter very much. Just lose yourself in having a good time for a while...of its type (unpretentious and rather silly) this is a gem.

I'm buying it. I enjoyed the trial, and even though I lost all my lives when I clicked Play again I was given the option to continue my previous game - score zeroed, but with 6 shiny new lives and all the buildings that I had purchased still there. There doesn't seem to be a time limit either, although I sometimes get a bonus for being "speedy" - not sure if that's working quickly or just trapping multiple bugs with one rope.

Great fun, although not particularly challenging. I love the power-ups, especially the disco that causes all the bugs to freeze and groove to the beat for a few seconds. I've bought so many already this month, I may wait for a real dry spell or a DD to spring for this one, but do recommend it if you like the genre. Definitely for some mindless distraction.

Love this game. Used to play water bugs and enjoyed that. Good stress relief after a day at work, when you want to not use your brain too much!

As was mentioned before:

This is a Copy of Water Bugs - the 2nd game that was l ever bought, about 3 years ago.
This looks like a poor copy to me.

Cracking wee game! Great fun when you just HAVE to squish something
Love the fact that you can continue from the level you lost your lives in, though it would be good if you could buy some extra lives to try for a high score.

I'm really enjoying this game. I bought it when the trial ended. Killing bugs is always good! It's good, mindless fun and a nice break from games that make you think too much, lol.

I've remembered the original game - which is much, much older than Waterbugs: I can't remember the title, but the screen showed bouncing balls - each level added one more ball, and you had to isolate each ball in its own section of the screen - it appeared in pre-PC days, and so that was about all that could be achieved in a few Kb, but it was still a challenging little game. As regards the query on 'speed' - this is a one-move powerup, and means that the line is drawn much more quickly than usual, giving you a better chance to bridge a large gap successfully.

If you loved Cosmic Bugs and Water Bugs you'll love this one. It's a much better game - the Casino is cute and the points to purchase items is an added bonus. Love it. Really fun and addicting and over 400 levels!

Interesting, I replayed Water Bugs just last week. If I had to choose I would go with Water Bugs. An oldie but goodie with good replay value.

I am already half way through this game and I am enjoying it incredibly! BFG did good pairing up with PopCap on this game! I laugh at the animations, the sounds are great, the puzzles are challenging.

Basically this is the first 'Bugs' game that Popcap created.
The third game is Water Bugs which contains the continued storyline from Cosmic Bugs.

This is quite interesting but I prefer Cosmic/Water bugs as it has a level select.

I know this answer comes late, but thank you for your comments. I love Banana Bugs. I re-re-re-play it from time to time and still find it enjoyable.

In fact, I was looking for a similar game and it's been nice to "discover" that Water bugs and Cosmic bugs are from the same family. I just downloaded the trials and I'm going to try them right now!

Finally a jezzball type game that I can play on Windows 7, I have missed that game, this one with bugs instead of balls but basically the same, but with better music. Of course Popcap would come up with this one lol, anyway I don't think I'm going to quit playing it any time soon.
