One strategy that works for me is to not go through each day as quickly as possible. Think ahead.
While the crops were my main source of income, I laid them out in a 5x5 grid for each type, with a single row in between each grid and a single patch of grass in the center square to put a sprinkler in that waters the whole 5x5 grid. This keeps me from having to run for the water bucket and well, and allows me to have an even set of 6 boxes of 4 plants per grid, or 1 box each of 6 plants, or however you choose to do it.. (as a quilter, I changed my layout to more of a quilt block look).
The grid looks a bit like this.. (with the X as the sprinkler)

Then I bought about 8 or 10 'cases' of 10 boxes and set them out of the way. When the plants grow, I go harvest as many as possible, but just sit them around on the grass as close together as I can and keep harvesting until there's no more room to put them.
After I've done this, If my goal for the day is, for example, 20 boxes of roses, I'll have her start moving everything else to the shed as quickly as possible, by clicking way ahead of her speed, which allows me to move them from the shed to the market while she's still putting them in the shed. I sell as many as I can of all but the roses and buy whatever animals or other things I need. Then before I actually sell the roses, I'll go and fill the yard with boxes for the next day.
I'm just now on day 31 and have enough cattle, sheep, goats, chickens and bees to pay for the day's goal without having to really harvest much at all. I do watch prices and will not sell any milk, eggs, etc for less than $1.
Money is not an issue using this strategy, so it's never a good idea to choose the money as an upgrade. I also have not yet bought any decorations. They take up space that I don't have to spare. And actually, at this point I've only widened the property to the 3rd upgrade square each way. It's a little cramped right now, but my market space and seeds, animals, etc. are more important. Those are the upgrades I choose, along with the occasional price change.
Another tip is to buy a second shed when you can and put it somewhere away from the first one. The less distance she has to walk to take boxes to the shed, the less time it takes to get it done.
