Detective Stories

[Post New]by mmaiden42 on Nov 20, 08 6:07 PM
Detective Stories: Hollywood. I demo-ed it from another sight, the spinning toy one. Was wondering if anybody else has tried it and what they think of it? It is an HO and has 160 levels. I think I will buy it if it comes here. Nothing really spectacular about it but 160 levels makes for a lot of playing time.

Demo-ed it too from another site. Nothing brain boggling about it. Some cute antics (like dusting)-- but I agree with you that it would give the player many hours of play time. Maybe not all stimulating hours, but at least it has what I look for "relax" and "escape" time.

Being the impulsive shopper that I am. I tried it and bought it. Way too much dialogue for me...because I really did not enjoiy the dialogue. But I did buy it so I will "like" it....

What I wrote on the other thread...........

Detective Stories Hollywood new HO

posted in Chit-Chat Corner on Nov 19, 08 2:36 AM

It sucks. Seems very el cheap-o.

The graphics were horrible (on my PC anyway).
A timer with a short fuse.
20 second penalty for random clicking.
They just tried to throw a bunch of HO/Puzzle type games together.
One scene I had to find HO's from a word list. The very next task was to find HO's in the same scene from silhouettes which turned out to be the very same items I just found.

Nope. Not buying it.

Thanks for all your opinions on this game. I've downloaded it, but haven't played any of it yet. See we'll see!

for me. WAY too fast of a timer with no Relaxed Mode option. I will *not* frantically click for any game any more.

I almost fell a sleep playing this. Are you kidding me dusting!!!!! If I wanted to dust I would be doing it in my own house!! The game started out ok than just got dumb. When the hour ran out I remember thinking finally.
I live in Southern California and other than the opening scene with the Hollywood sign every other scene was lame.

I thought the idea of making the characters look like actual, well known people was funny. I saw Barbra Streisand and Steven Spielberg to name two.

Who did the detective remind you of?

Before I started playing this game I opened the game dialog in Notepad to see how many levels it had. It looks like there are 12 locations, 40 scenarios, and 4 tasks in each scenario, so that makes 160 task/puzzle screens. In the one hour demo I was able to complete 21 of the task/puzzle screens. I was up to where Angela finds John in the storage room and they find all the keys. So it should take me about 7 to 8 hours to complete the game. But I am old and slow.

The tasks I ran across in the demo were:
Finding pieces of hidden objects and using the completed objects to take some action.
Placing objects back where they belong.
Finding objects by looking at their silhouette.
Finding the differences.
Finding 10 of the same type of object, such as 10 keys.
Eliminating obstacles in a location.
Solving various puzzles.

I am so glad that I read this forum. I am so silly. I "thought" that looked like B. Streisand, but now I have to go and find Steven Speilberg. I am way too literal. I'll get it one of these days. Now I have to start over and pay attention.... LOL

This was the one thing I *did* like about this game!

I like the fact that it is going to be a bit longer. Something to occupy my time while waiting for the next week for MCFRTR.

So will some fish tell me if I should buy this game or not? Seems to be evenly divided between yes and no.

Hi Red... I think that you have several choices. Toss a coin, but I think I'd say..don't buy it. It is OK, but there is definitely something better out there. It is something for me to pass the time with, but the game is "just" a game.. nothing especially special. How's that!!!

I did the demo, and won't be buying it. Didn't like the dusting and etc. But for some it might be okay, just not for me. I loved ME and the mushroom one, but this is just too much Can't wait for RTR. Just hope someone posts helpful hints as soon as they have them. Hint.. Hint..
