Creatures Across The Screen

Hey All.
I notice from time to time in game play some creatures come across the screen eg. A bear towing a sea horse, a diving bear in goggles.
I click on it and get a tick.
What is this and how does it relate to the game.
Let me know.

I think they mean check mark...
