So, what do you do when there are no more games that you want to buy?

[Post New]by ajuma on Aug 20, 11 6:58 AM
Tomorrow (August 21) will be my 2 year anniversary with BFG.

I've suffered through the OS customers problems (although it didn't affect me, I felt for those who it did), the re-design of the site (and still we can't easily help others who need help with particular games) and the several GM fiascos (luckily, mine has worked fine except for having to remember to change to a different drive every time...but that's fixed now).

I took all of that in stride.

The thing is, though, I'm not a H0G/Adventure fan and it's been a struggle to find new games that I like.

I've been through every M3 game (and bought quite a number of them), the strategy/Wandering Willows/Gemini Lost type games (and bought a bunch of them too!), and all of the "outside the box" type games like Mevo and the Grooveriders, Bus Driver, Elf Bowling, Magical Forrest, Madragora, Tangle Bee...and a bunch of others that most have never heard of.

Tomorrow, I'll have 5 monthly game credits.

It seems to me that I'm wasting my money by purchasing the credits since the last game I really "bought" (not using a punch card code or a sale game) was The Tiny Bang Story back in May!!

So I guess the question is: Is it time to give up my membership for a while? For those of you who have been members for a long time, are YOU having a harder time finding "games you love"?

Ajuma, still loving the games - just hating the experience . I want the OLD BFG back, &%#$ it! (And the old GM - yeah, right)

Good Morning Ajuma..
Well, it's morning to me..still on that first cup of coffee...and yes, I am having the same problem, except that I am a hog player, as well as mat3s, and rpgs ...
I have bought some, but several are still on the game manager to be finished...just not that much fun anymore..
Tired of the same old story, and game play...Where is that game that you just can't wait to play??? I'm waiting patiently...

Hi Ajuma. I've never had the "can't find any games that you want to buy" problem. My game wishlist is still long. Personally, I don't mind HOG's but BFG could give us some more variety.

I'm fortunate that I'm financially stable and if I want a game, I buy it.

When I first joined BFG, there were SO many games to choose from and I had a blast trying out new games. I LOVED when there was a sale! My wish list was LONG!!

But in the 2 years that I've been a member, I've bought 150+ games and demoed probably 4 times as many. I loved the H0G/Adventure when I first started, but now...h0 hum...to me, they're all the same.

And during the last 3 sales, I didn't buy a thing! The DDs I either have or have tried and don't want...and the new games all seem to be cut out of the same mold.

I'm not really blaming BFG as they can only offer us what's out there but It does get a little depressing when I go for 2 weeks without even finding a game I want to demo!

Hey Ajuma--When there's a drought for games that appeal to me, I go to my "Purchase History" and pick a game that my memory bank has "dumped"! Sometimes, that's almost like a new experience. Or maybe I'll branch out--I'm a H0Gster, but I'll try an occasional M-3 or TM/Resource Management game--"Cave Quest" (M-3) and "Pioneer Lands" (TM/RM) are both great, so I've expanded my tastes a bit.

Regards, elldee

You know....I have theoretically hit that wall as well.....I have downloaded all the games that remotely looked interesting.....and now all the games that come out are Ce's....and since I am such a Ce tramp....( ..) I have game credits on the loose.....sooo....what do i do?

Well.....we had Unwritten Legends sneak in as a wonderful NON CE GAMe.....so spent a credit there.....

Then we had The Clockwork Man series sneak past the in the newest games....not even touted or anything....

So I hold my credits and still find little gems sneaking in......

and when in doubt.....feel free to donate your creds all to me....they will have a nice new home and get fed and watered three times a day as I stand over them cackling!!!!

elldee, I've been doing the same thing...and I also have a lot of games that I've collected over the years. I DO enjoy going back and re-playing them.

The thing is, what's the point of gathering game credits if I'm not going to use them?

Hi Ajuma , I'd say it's definitely time for you to cancel (ETA temporarily) when you have 5 credits saved up, but only because BF make it no big deal to cancel one month and then rejoin whenever you like.

I have 3 monthly credits saved up (& some CS ones for replaced games), and my policy is always to make the decision fresh every month. I cancelled the day before payment was due this month but that doesn't rule out the possibility of rejoining again later in the month. That's not looking likely on offerings so far though.

I only rejoin if I am already close to filling a punchcard or see a DD that I really want and feel that I have a good chance of filling a punchcard that month (I often use the back catalog to do that). Unless a new game is one of those rare (for me) 'must have it now' games I save a list until I have 6 that I want.

The daft thing is that I have plenty of owned but, as yet, unplayed games to be going on with, and I haven't exhausted the back catalog yet, but I still look at the new releases and DD each day hoping for something new and interesting to demo and am still a little disappointed when I go a few days without seeing anything.

I guess it's that lure of something new and shiny but it's funny because I am not like that about material things.

I'm definitely not a stereotypical female lover of all things shopping related and if I ever want to spend saved up birthday or christmas money on some larger non-essential item I always wait months first to see how badly I want whatever it is (Sometimes years! - I saved up enough for a Wii but then started to consider the Xbox Kinect and have now had that money for at least 2 years watching and waiting to see what develops with each and whether I really want either as I only wanted them to make exercise more fun and, once that money is gone, I won't find it easy to save it up again).

It seems to only be games that get me this way . Maybe it's the lure of the demo hour?

I too have a back log of credits, and nothing to spend them on.. I'm hoping for a good non HOG CE to come out (there's a few out at developers websites that I want, but I"m not willing to spend $20 if I don't get the punches or something) I've also been considering cancelling here and maybe trying out an all access portal..

h0 hum indeed, I am the exact same way right now and have been for a while.. I have TONNES of unplayed Hogs in my history but I just don't feel like playing them... there's only so many crowbars and wrenches I can look for..last month I had trouble filling one punch card, same with the month before, and I haven't bought a full price game since april. And I've skipped on the last 2 sales as well

I got to the point you are at now, Ajuma. Like you, I am not a HOG person as such, but rather a fan of good time management games and there are precious few of those about. Every morning I look at both the PC and the Mac releases and my heart sinks - "Oh it's another hidden object collectors' edition". Sigh.

And as to good TM games? Nothing but games for youngsters. I don't want to groom dogs or serve them dinner.

So I too felt as if I was just wasting money every month. However, I am (for lack of anything else) now playing HOPAs and am actually starting to enjoy some of them. So I'm not going just yet.

What I've also started doing is replaying games I played years ago and I am surprised how much I am enjoying those again. The good thing about BFG in that regard is, of course, that you can reinstall games you may have deleted and, as long as your details have not changed, you are not charged again.

Maybe you should cancel your membership pro tem until you've used up all your credits and then rejoin when the current HOG mania dies down - it's GOT to happen eventually, surely

Could we maybe go back a couple of years?
I bought from because I liked the prices. At least for me, that is what dragged me into this company.
I then found the forums after possibly 2 years?
Then I made friends.
Then made price changes.
Then I was not happy.
But had the friends.
Then decided to change the GM.
Then I was not happy.
But had the friends
Then my downloads were slow.
Then I was not happy.
But had the friends.
Hey! But who cares? I have met some lovely new people!
And I guess the prices are not as bad as a lot of sites!
With the slow downloads and everything else, I now have time to talk to my FRIENDS

It's not that I can't find games...I just can't afford them. I've been replaying the games I already own.

Jenn and Tiger, have you exhausted the back catalog yet? Lately I have been enjoying games such as FishCo, Sunshine Acres, Plantasia, Burger Bustle (a DD earlier this month) & am still on the fence about eventually buying Brave Piglet &/or Egg vs. Chicken

(Ajuma - those last 2 are not TM)

Thanks, Daisy May, for the about those games. I have Burger Bustle and am enjoying that. I, like you, am playing older games to while away the time. Amazing how you can forget what you played just a few years ago and then find again. It makes you wonder why you ever thought it was a good idea to delete a game.

@Daisy_May according to the GM that did a sweep of all BFG games on my pc past and present I've got 252 games on this old computer.. it's really not a wonder to me that I'm not able to find games that I'm interested in at this point.. I have gone through the back catalog and while I likely haven't exhausted it, I'm pretty sure I'm awfully close to doing so

Hi All,

Great thread - right up my street.

I have been a BFG member since 06 and started as a **** fan (Prime Suspects) and have stayed pretty much a ****/Adventure gamer. But after realising I liked the Speculations and Ponderings about the last MCF (13th Skull), more than the actual game.... I realised that my love of this type of game was probably over. If I find myself outside a car with a big dark house behind a locked gate again, I think I will scream. Or if I am asked to find a crowbar, hammer or screwdriver in a pile of junk - I will go straight the nearest lunatic asylum ( ok! mental health hospital)

We love gaming and I love (ed) BFG and the forums, I would really miss checking in daily, I moved to strategy like Royal Envoy and the new Pioneer Land but when PL stopped working and the whole GM problems was at its worst, I spent so much time trying to sort out my problem and keeping up to date with the GM events, I feel it as all lost its appeal.

I have used my credits and any offers to buy/gift games for friends as nothing much interests me any more.

As long as I can still visit the forums and not be a member I will probably cancel my membership until November when I shall consider whether to buy the newest MCF.

Silver

Well, I have a LOT of games stored up (um...over 600! ) that I've collected over the years...some of which I've never played...or only played a bit because I thought I'd like them "later".

"Later" is here!! I recently listed all of my games in a spread sheet and I go to a site where I can get random numbers. Then I play the game that is "picked" for me.

I just finished "Sprouts Adventure" which I bought back in September of 2010 and had never played...and I loved it!!

@Daisy, I think you're right about it being time to cancel. I think I'll wait until I've used up my credits (I've got 6 months to do it!) and re-think my decision.

@peg: Well, just because I'm no longer a member of the "club" doesn't mean I can't keep the friends I've made here! I can still post!

Brave Piglet??? I'll have to check that one out! Believe it or not, I've never heard of that one! (Tried Egg vs Chicken but it wasn't for me.)

Well, it's not that I want to go anywhere else...exactly...but maybe it's just time for me to take a break from getting the credit every month.

I HAVE taken a look at other sites but haven't found anything that grabs me enough to want to sign up.
