stuck-screw for chair

I am stuck! I need to know how to get the screw to go into the chair. It will let me pick it up but when I try to place it in the hole it goes back where it came from. Have I not done something earlier in the game that I am supposed to first before it will let me fix the chair so I can proceed with the game. Thanks
