Hi Sherrilafkas,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Syberia. There are a couple different things you can do to help Syberia to run better on your computer. Direct X is a good start. I would also check to make sure your video card drivers are up to date, too. Here's a link to an article that should help you with that:

I would also recommend adjusting the settings in the game itself. If you click on the Options Menu, you can switch the "Level of detail" to Low and the "Screen depth" to 16 bits. Also, be sure that Anti-aliasing is turned off. If you change any of these settings, the game should be re-booted for this to take effect.

There are a couple spots in the game that LOTS of people had trouble with. This is one of them. It is a glitch. I had no trouble at all throughout the game, so I don't know how to fix it, but you could try uninstalling & reinstalling the game.
