Can't continue bonus game if closed

I had to leave the Bonus game and when I came back to continue where I left off, it only gave me the option of re-starting the bonus game. I was over two hours into it and if I have to replay two hours of ANY game, I pass. Is this a glitch or is there some other way to continue play?
