Virus / Security warning on exe file

[Post New]by SpookyPigdog on Jan 18, 09 1:18 PM
I downloaded this game last week, and during download I got a message from my virus/security software saying that the EXE file was unsafe and that I should lock it away in the "suspect" area. I don't think I've ever got it on an EXE file before and certainly never with a game downloaded from BFG.

Of course, I can't play it if the .EXE is in the unsafe area, so I will have to just uninstall it without playing it.

I have noted that there are several problems with playing the game, but haven't found anyone else with this problem. I have checked my virus/security checkers and they are all the latest versions/updates.

How disappointing. Ideas, anyone?

Hi SpookyPigdog. I thought I'd pop in and let you know that all of our games here at Big Fish Games are 100% virus/adware/spyware free, and are tested for such. Chances are, your anti-virus program definitions need to be updated. Here is a help topic we have that talks about this:

Virus messages

If you have any other questions, then I would recommend that you contact our Customer Support staff. They are well trained in assisting with technical questions and concerns. You can contact them by clicking here.

Thank you for visiting the forums!

V8lion I'm getting the same error. I uninstalled the game, updated my virus software and reinstalled the game and still get the same message. I've never received this type of message from a BF game. I have the option to ignore the threat,,,,but that kind of defeats the purpose of having the virus protection. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Me also with virus msg. I never got it with the first release but had all the other hassles. Second release I got msg and ignored it as I was assured that bfg were virus free. Game was great till I had almost finished when I got the blue screen of death. Down loaded new release today and it was all worse than ever. I give up.

Same virus message here and I have NEVER EVER gotten that before with any of my bfgames (loyal member for years!)

I came on this forum just to see if I wasn't the only one with this issue. My virus protection is updated and all so I'm not sure what to do.

I am going to download the game again and maybe see if I can "ignore" the warning and play the game seeing as how there are many users who are happily playing this game.

Wish me luck!

I had the same thing happen to me when I downloaded for the second time after it had been fixed too. Have you tried again or should I wait?

Threat Name: Adware Generic.YOH detected om open.

I wont be opening it I trust my Redident Shield Alert

Tis a real shame this is happening. Lets hope Big Fish look into this game.I have faith in BigFish BUT you can't be 100% sure wityh every game BigFish peeps.

Hi all - yep I got this same warning too. I downloaded the game this morning and my virus scanner (AVG) wont let me open it - even if I try to ignore the threat. Noticed a lot of the responses to this thread are only in the last few days - is it the latest version of the game?? I've been waiting for my monthly credit to get this game as I loved the trial!!

*sad face*

I also got the adware warning while installing the trial version, and my virus/spyware program updates automatically on a daily basis.

It's unfortunate that BFG is standing by their guarantee, essentially saying "It's your problem, not ours," instead of looking into this and finding a solution. Maybe it's not really spyware/adware, but something is causing errors.

I had the same problem, but once I read bfgAegean's post it was solved!

You have to go to the virus messages page and then add bfgclient.exe, bfgprocess.exe, bfggamesservices.exe, and the game file which should be in your program files under Be Rich to your exceptions in your anti-virus software.

I have AVG, so I went to Tools-->Advanced Settings-->PUP Exceptions. Then click Add Exception and navigate to your bfgclient folder in program files, and you will find the 3 previously stated safe files. Don't forget to add the actual game file, too. (That's the only thing that got my game to work.)

I understand if you trust your anti-virus software better than a game, but I hope I could help some of you!

I just got the same warning. AVG 8.0 Resident Shield alert, C:\Program Files\Be Rich\game.exe Adware Generic.YOH Detected on open. I have never had this happen before and have been a Big Fish Game user for years. I found that other users are having the same issue.

I just bought ice princess and noticed when i opened firefox it looked a little different, then i did a google search and under everything that came up it said "this page may not be safe to open". anyway i chose one of the items and it brought me to a redirected page wanting me to click a link. i was suspicious so i never and uninstalled big fish client and ice princess and the problem is gone now. just my 2 cents.

Folks, just do as bfgAegean says. You can set your anti-virus software to exclude certain programs or files. It will work... Happy Gaming!!

I had the same problem - AVG was giving me a "Potentially Unwanted Program" warning - never saw that one before.

Anyway I contacted customer support who assured me the game was virus-free and to allow it as an exception in AVG - which I did. All was well - game works fine.

[i] My virus protection has quarentined several games from Big Fish and my virus protection is up todate!
I can do a screen shot if anyone is intested in seeing? I have mentioned it and had no response. I guess you have to complain to the right department.
