And on testing = switching to and fro, I saw in one of the start screens (1st or 2nd into the Opera) that there were 1 respectively 2 candles to the left.
So, don't know whether "Regular" would be the 'real' widescreen option or whether also items would be cut off in the H O scenes.

ETA: I did find the items in the 1st H O-scene, the closet-room to the right, but that might have been luck cos they weren't on the edges; the red curtains on the right and left were definitely cut off.

I'm having this same problem. Based on all of the great reviews, I bought the game without testing (silly me!) and don't seem to be able to see the whole screen in anything but the windowed mode. Any suggestions?

Per the suggestions about the mouse cursor, I checked (via control panel) and my cursor trails have always been turned off. So that suggestion did not aid my problem. I checked and have version 9.0 DirectX, so I am assuming that is not the problem either.

I tried the suggested 1024x768 screen res, and like others have said, the view of the scene changes and I'm only seeing perhaps 80% of the scene, with the rest being cut off.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and whereas the screen doesn't flicker after the game starts and one moves into the first or second location, but the cursor still flickers and disappears altogether unless I continue slight movement constantly with the mouse.

I suppose it's "do-able", as is, but irritating and distracting. Any suggestions would be welcome, as playing this in full screen, instead of windowed mode is something I would love to try, as this is very nearly my favorite game now!

I am also getting the "out of range" box pop up, but have tried every resolution and still cannot get it to go away.

Played the game one time and loved it, however decided to play again and game froze up on the tower scene. Re downloaded the game and start again with different player name and game froze up again on tower scene. Can't get past that point now.
Help.

Update: after incessantly clicking the game icon, I finally got the demo to start and it went all the way to the end--great game. I'm still nervous about buying it though, because of the start up issue.

I am having the same problem. I tried the "incessant clickling" method, and it didn't work for me. I have had this problem with maybe ten games. Thankfully, I always try the demo before I buy anything.

Anyone else have a theory or a solution?

Did anyone ever get an answer to this question. I have chatted with help, uninstalled and installed a few times, did everything that help said to do? still no help
I too was looking forward to playing this game. I actually bought it and love the play, really looking forward to it. I have had this problem with a few games so far.

Everything has been going well, until I reached the place where you give the black rose to the phantom and there is supposed to be a key that will open the elevator pad lock. I cannot find a key anywhere around the broken mirror. Did I miss something??? Please help if you can, I want to continue playing!!

Hi lhunley! You mean the Phantom in the Orchestra pit, right? The key should fall to the ground when the mirror shatters. Look around the steps there. Good luck!

Demo doesn't open. Black screen w/ msg that says "not supported format". Since all my other games actually have video, I don't think it's my computer. Another glitchy game from BFG, where that seems to be more the rule than the exception pfffft.

If I could find games I like that actually WORK PROPERLY so I could use up my outstanding credits, I'd be so out of here. I'm not doing troubleshooting for them anymore & I'm never running Dr Felix again.

The game crashed my computer just as I was going through the mirror to access the Bonus area in the Collector's Edition. I got a blue screen and had to restart my laptop.
When I went back into the game, my entire progress had been erased and it was as if I'd never played the game at all, even though I had been at it for almost 6 hours in the course of the past few evenings.

I can't tell you how pissed off I am. I did not buy a Collector's Edition to get kicked out of the game at the same point the Standard Edition ends.

Now, this game is truly wonderful and I enjoyed it immensely, so I'm going to try again, but rest assured that if the same thing happens again and I can't access the Bonus area I WILL demand a refund.

I just got to the fourth chapter, and I'm having a problem. I've tried to go back to the basement to complete a few objectives, but the lift stops halfway and I'm forced to stay in the upper room. I believe that this is a technical issue.

Both this game, and the Mystery Legends: Beauty and the Beast game are continually crashing on me. I can get to the main screen, but when I hit play the video starts and then goes black, before exiting out.

I've already updated my video driver and yet the issue continues on both of those games. I have a Windows 7 Inspiron Laptop. Is it a compatibility issue?

Aha--the other forum for Beauty said something about a McAfee problem.

i do have that, so i'm going to see if I can disable it temporarily. Just FYI to anyone else having issues if they also have McAfee.

Bought the Phantom collector's edition on iPad but when I gave the rose to Eric in the extra game it tells me to buy the collector's edition to continue.
I clic Already purchased and the Game confirms but then, it gets in a loop telling me I have to pay to continue. I reinstalled the game but now I have to replay the whole thing to get access to the extra game play with no guarantee it will behave at the end!
Not good.

I also bought the collectors edition for iPad and made it all the way through to the end. Gave the last rose to the phantom and was prompted to purchase the game. I clicked all ready paid, it completely reset my progress. I really don't want to have to replay all the way to the end again. But I'd like to see the ending.

Please advise.

Hi Fishies,

For those running into an issue with the game locking up during the bonus content, we've recently received an update for this game to help clear that up. For more information on that, check out this post here:

UPDATE! New iPad version available! October 4, 2012

I hope this helps!
