just finished this game and enjoyed it but was surprised that it was so short - i bit disappointed

I am stuck in the basement help

I am at the end of chapter 1 in the machine room. I have put the everything on except the canister and it says you should put the bowl on first but it allowed me to put it on and now I can not find the canister. Help, so that I may move on.

I have started the game four times and every time I get stuck at the clock. I set the clock for 3:45 but I am unable to get the book at the bottom of the clock. Is it a glitch or am I making the same mistake over and over?
