is anyone else having trouble with the Esc key? Is there any way to save the game without using the Esc key?

Newbie gamer here and I downloaded this game last night, decided to play it today. Looks really good in the preview, but is just not playable. Can't get him to do anything other than wander around his drawing room and even that's difficult. I have to admit the graphics are good but I will be deleting this game and cannot believe that I have wasted my very first game credit on this.

Have you clicked on Watson? If 3rd person is difficult for you, try 1st person instead.

If you talk to the group of men and they keep repeating the same thing, then you haven't found everything at that stage. Have you measured the footprints and noticed something missing on the shoe print? Did you get the scale and the piece of fabric? Did you examine both sets of prints? When I first did that scene, I thought I measured the prints, but I just clicked the measuring tape, I forgot to drag it just so to get the correct measurement. There's also a small ball in a pot in the shed.
What have you found there?

I have a feeling that a laptop or pc with a (n Intel Express) graphics chipset is going to struggle, or find the game unplayable.
Version 1 of the game dates from 2006 and version 2 from 2008, which might give you an idea of the pcs it was designed to be played on.

hi have just loaded the game and am having trouble with holmes walking just criss crosses the street cant get him to walk straight is this a problem using the mouse how do you change to keyboard or mouse option. is it better in the third person view.

Hi dreamlass. You don't use the mouse to walk in 1st person, only to look around. W = forwards, A = left, S = backwards and D = right.

I guess you're at Champagne's hut without Champagne. Have you tried bribery yet?

Hey, Mr. Russ - you seem pretty savvy about game play, what would you suggest as my next foray into large file adventure? I liked Holmes and, I'm ashamed to admit, I enjoyed the 'otherworldly' quality about this particular one. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
I am a very big fan of large file games, (I own about 50 of them). I really liked the look of "Echo, Secret of the Lost Cavern", however, everyone says it is too short.
I love the Jules Verne games, Nancy Drew, Mystery Case Files and the Poirot mysteries, after reading the comments on the new Sherlock Holmes game I think I will buy it, I tried the last one but it kept freezing up and losing all my progress.
I have since bought a new tower for my computer and all of my games are working amazingly well. I found out that I could not even upgrade my video card as my computer was too old (2004), I think if anyone is having a problem that it is probably the video card.
See ya all in the pond,
Fiona

Well, starfish40... I've just started Art of murder: FBI confidential and I'm enjoying it. Post Mortem and its sequel Still Life are comparable.

Having a great time with this game. Only one problem... Outside of warehouse 16, the tarry footprints lead away from the door and into a dark black area. I go in that direction looking for a door that I can open with a key. I very carefully used the footprint icons which led me to a door but nothing happens. I never get the hand cursor so I can use the key on the door. Maybe it isn't the right door? It is the one exactly at the bottom of the bridge. I have been all over the wharf area and there is no door I can open. I have measured the footprints and I got the key.

Please if you know where the door is, you can give me directions?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

I don't think you're looking for the door at this stage. Have you been round the side of the building and looked at / through the window?

Looking around the corner at the window was back farther in the game. I did that and opened the door with the hook and rope. This is the warehouse with the General Strike signs posted on it and the tarry feetprints in front of it. I very carefully followed only the footstep icons so I wouldn't go astray. Didn't find any other door but the one right after the bridge. I finally went walking all over in the pitch blackness. This did not reveal any door that would be open by the key. The door is by the water. There is water under the bridge.

Anyway, I'm rambling here and will go back in today and try some more.

I've started again for the fun of it. I'll come back and post here when I get that far.
You have to go down some stairs by the water and ... use the key you found by 16 itself. There's no reason for pitch blackness. I think you need to adjust your set.

Hey all, this is my first post. My game gets stuck on first person view and does not show the button to switch back to third person. Anyone else experienced this? I have saved and exited the game but it does not come back when I go back into the game!
