Thank you CasualScout
your view about this game does give me lots of hope and I'm sure I'll buy it when my next credit will come along.
To be honest : as being native from A'dam, I left there 44 years ago 2 go 2 live in some other European countries.
I'll have 2 dig deep into my memories if indeed there are Canals underground, but I think so (should be possible to 'ask' Google I suppose).
Anyhow ALL houses, etc. in Amsterdam, still, are build on very long, deep in the ground going, pilefoundations; so that means anyhow the ground is full of water.
I do have a Histocal Amsterdam Guidebook from +- 1300 aC onwards until 1963, but right now no time to start reading, as I'll have to leave now; but when time I'll let U know.

Besides:
maybe interesting to know as well:
Amsterdam and Antwerp/Belgium diamond industries were/are well known for their cutting raw diamond-skills + trading ; although I believe now London latelyis as well.
"DIAMONDS ARE (still !!!) A GIRLS BEST FRIENDS" ( aren't they ???)
Now I'll have to dash.

Forgot to say how guilty I felt stealing all those diamonds - especially the ones in the jewellery store! Waiting for the police to come and arrest me!

An average nice HOG, not really a great game. It's one of those games where nothing really stood out to make it a must buy game.
The first thing that turned me off was that the developer had to put their name in the game title. At least SpinTop puts their name inside the game in a bit more discrete way. Either way, it reminds me of a male cat marking his territory.
Music was pleasant, but almost put me to sleep. It reminded me of those CD's you play when you go to bed to help you sleep.
(btw... why do you need to turn the music down in the game? I have sound controls on my speakers which sit on each side of my monitor - I LOVE my speakers which weren't that expensive really - at Target I believe)
Graphics were ok. Not bad, not great. The colors were all in the same darkish bland scheme.
Hidden Objects were easy to find. There were a couple scenes where I went in and didn't even read the list - just started clicking and I was correct 90% of the time. Once an item is clicked on, it takes a long time for it to disappear (like slow motion) and at one point I had about 6+ items lit up just waiting in line to disappear from my list.
Mini games break up the repetitious hidden object hunt, but they were very easy.
Story was just ok. Something weird about how it started and went along. Can't quite explain it, but I felt like I just walked into the middle of an on going conversation or situation. My very first thought was, "Why am I in Amsterdam?" I guess I was on a vacation. My second thought was, "Why am I hunting around for stuff?" I guess it's because I found a map all torn up in my "clean" hotel room. If I found a torn up map in my hotel room, I would complain about the maid service and then think the previous guest had a crappy time in Amsterdam.
Hints were bountiful by finding the diamonds scattered about and the hint gauge filled up pretty fast. I'm not sure if you could skip a mini game since I felt no need to. There was a ? over on the right side of the screen so that was either a hint or a skip icon.
No offence intended to anyone for my stereotyping, but this is the only way I can describe the game....... It reminded me of a good game to bring to my grandmother (if she were alive) in the senior citizen's home. The whole game felt "old" to me.
Now I hear that it only took another 1 to 1.5 hours to complete after the 1 hour demo. So not a long game.

I didn't think I was that fast - but I've got the diamond to prove it!
There was nothing in the game that I haven't done several times before ( that isn't a complaint BTW) Most of the mini games were pretty easy for me and -when in doubt- search the dark areas!
Sorry if I've put anyone off buying because of my 'time' - but when I'm done I'm done and I know there are a lot quicker than me!
Enjoy everyone!

An enjoyable HOG.
Lovely scenes of Amsterdam.
Non-cluttered arrangement of objects.
Music had a mysterious tone to it.
Made a purchase before end of demo.
