help, stuck at beginning

How do I make the necklace at the beginning of the game? I keep collecting shells and going back to the necklace table but it will only allow me to place the first big center bead. I have others, I think all of them, but they will not attach to the necklace. Help, please!

I think the only necklace you can really make is the Aloha necklace. Flip the pages of the book to find the Aloha necklace, place the big shell on the necklace, then the other shells.
