Other than paying money, that is...

By purchasing a mine, available in the structures area. It seems to earn 1 diamond a day.

G'day!

There are a few ways to get diamonds (other than purchasing in the Market)

Some goals that can be completed as you work through the game will reward you with diamonds.

You could strike it lucky in Monster Scratch

and, as laukie257 mentioned having a Mine will also allow you to earn diamonds.

Hope this helps!

I wish we could just purchase diamonds using the coins. I can get a lot of coins and would like to be able to breed more monsters but I need diamonds for them and the scratch tickets don't always win them for me.

You can get diamonds using coins. I think the conversion rate in the market is 50 diamonds for 1 million coins.

None of the monsters REQUIRE diamonds, do they?

cat52, no but the wait time to breed and incubate them is horribly long. They did it that way hoping you'll spend your own money to get them done quicker.

You have to have diamonds to buy some of the monsters in the first place. I've spent more money than I care to at this point -- might give up.

If certain monsters require diamonds to purchase, can they also be sold for diamonds?

Not true. Just if you want to speed it up.
On Plant island at least all monsters can be bred. Just look at the symbols under each to see what you need to bring together to breed that monster. It just takes time and a lot of loggin ins to collect coins to mainly upgrade castles and buy mines.

That is the conversion rate, but it is one way. You can convert diamonds into coins, but not coins into diamonds (unless in a roundabout way of buying a mine for each island).

Any monster you see in the store that costs diamonds is also breed-able from monsters that cost gold, so you are not required to spend those diamonds if you're prepared to breed (and wait for the results).
