Memory loss, where did the book of fire come from?

For some reason I've totally forgotten where the book of fire came from? I don't usually miss journals, but now I wish there was one in this game. Can anyone remind me please? I'm only about half way through so no spoilers if it hasn't been properly explained yet. What a wally I am!
