Couldn't agree more Apollo; getting 15 coins or a shard - when there is already a part of the game for getting these - instead of an inventory item (even the useless ones we get all too often, like the Harpy feather!) just ruins the game even more than all the other things (like not being able to select what you get when you do a random HOS or ZZ( which people have complained about for an age and a half; but the devs and the money men don't care about our enjoyment - they want people to have to spend real money, more and more, on items they can't find. For me this is probably the final nail. I have been going off the game for a while now, and this is probably the one that will make me give up.

Your not exactly stockpiling if your selling your over stocked inventory... I'm still trying to level up.. on level 57, I need those extra coins... 15 coins isn't going to cut it... and if I can't get items to craft with to also sell for a profit (??).... I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to gather enough coins to pay for all those higher levels... I still have enough inventory, I could go up a level or two... but, I don't level up till I know I have enough COINS to cover the cost.... At one time, months ago, I looked to see just how much they were asking to buy coins and what you could get... It was not worth it, in my opinion, and never did buy coins, and never would...

I did stop questing for four months.. built up coins... went from level 51 to level 57... It's not that I don't do what is necessary... I do,..... but it HELPED to be able to sell those rarely used items worth 25-30 coins each.. and it HELPED to craft... I fail to see how 15 coins instead of higher priced items, or the lack of items used for crafting for a profit is "helping" me...

Now, if those who reached level 69 have a strategy for those in levels 40-68 that would allow those lower level players a way to make COINS.. to advance ... rounds, feeding pets, airship... yep, been there, done that... It was also SELLING and CRAFTING....

Looks like that will mean, even more months of just round after round to try to get what I could have gotten in half the time... wow...

Bingo! It's all about the money now.

Interesting that as in a previous post I said that I felt the gambling element was becoming more prominent - they give us more coins to spend on the fortune wheel and dice table in the hope of getting HOS, ZZ or craft items.

Getting close......3 days and a wake up....for intel of a change......we were given extra ways to acquire shards in 5 and 10 clump bundles.....2 updates back.......for the most part we need not anymore ways to accumulate them.....weighing the the lessening of HOS item drop %......against the extra way to acquire another shard..........I would prefer having the HOS item % restored.......the security and freedom it encompassed, was dovetailed to is indispensable..... words cannot convey the depth to which that change has encroached/hindered this game........so as there are parts of this update that are enlightening.....the pall of the HOS % lessening darkens the rest of the zeal to this awesome game.......just insights to ponder....... **D@NgeR** out

When I first started this game 2 years ago.........didn't much like it, but it really grew on me........bought diamonds to support the game every time we got a new FUN update........have to say I haven't bought diamonds for a good update in a LONG time........I have bought diamonds after an event because it was very fun I and enjoyed them...........no longer going to spend my money.........I am afraid EG would take that as some kind of encouragement for this last disaster of an update. Also will be really pondering whether to buy another EG as I am NOT liking their style. I will also be looking at reviews for other BF games with a jaundiced eye........I noticed all the bad reviews for this game have been deleted..........so cant count on unbiased reviews anymore.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I am getting few items for inventory but most of the time I get a shard or 15 gold. Really? I think the whole shard quests are dumb anyway. And 15 gold? WTH? Come on....

As the plot thickens.....I remain sickened.......the restrictions.....and dissin'.....through and through........If I'm mistakin' the update has taken all the vimm ad zeal from me this is true......yes for a fact to the % lack from each HOS there be......has a deep trail for all to avail and navigate this minagery...I pray for it fixed before we are betwixed.....lacking the path to proceed...........

I would like to add my name to the haters of this new update. What is the fun and n going around and around just to get 15 coins or a worthless shard?
Guess I will go back to doing my jigsaw puzzles till they get this straightened out.
I just wish there had been some warning so I could have hung on to my inventory rather than fifty ing it away.

I decided to take note of everything I got yesterday and today from the HOS. I did 20 of them both days.

Yesterday-

Money-14
Shards-3
Items-3

Today-

Money-12
Shards-3
Items-5

I say if the devs are going to keep the 15 coins and 1 shard as a drop instead of an item in the HOS that they severely need to rethink those %'s.
Maybe something along the lines of a shard 10% of the time, 15 coins 15% of the time and an item 75% of the time.

Surely there's got to be some sort of compromise given the amount of players that are so very unhappy with this awful change.

I've not been able to complete a daily quest since the update, not to mention I've had to change the way that I gift because I never know now if I will be able to replace the items I'm giving out. I find that sad since gifting friends is such a big part of the game

Edited to add- if this was a money making ploy then they surely went about it the wrong way. As far as entertainment goes people will spent lots of money on things they enjoy, not so much on things they don't.

Today may be an anomaly...my numbers of items dropped per coins dropped is almost equal. Completely different from all the days since the update.

yesterday's game play:
coins: 53
shards: 21
items: 22

today so far:
coins: 24
shards: 9
items: 23

If this rate of the same number of coins vs items keeps up for me, I can totally handle this. I'll continue to keep track to see if it keeps up or if I'm just extremely lucky today so far. I'm with lots of others in stating I wish I hadn't gifted some of my big ticket items. Like the Ancestor's Spirit: very foolish...but had friends in need. I was a bit too new to the game to realize I should have kept those higher value items to convert. Oh, well. It helped someone out so that's a good thing.

go hill, re strategy for building coins, I am looking ahead on the Strategy Guide to see what's coming next and calculating the number of coins I will need before getting to the next crafted item in the character quests that will yield significant profit.

For example, I'm in the middle of Level 36 and will need approximately 20,000 coins to reach my next milestone, so following a suggestion previously posted on the forum, when I got to the Insomnia Horn, I crafted and sold it 5x's for a total profit of 6500 coins before moving on. This was very efficient because I could be certain of receiving the items I needed from the HOSs involved in the character quest.

I'm doing the same thing right now with the Cube of Fortune, and after that, I will do the same thing with the Warlock Pass; that and doing the rounds earns me the coins I need to keep moving forward. Of course my yield doing rounds is lower now since the coin drop in lieu of HOS items is capped at 15 coins ... sigh. I don't play as often as a result because I get frustrated everytime I receive 15 coins when an HOS has an object that I use often, but don't have at the moment, and it isn't forthcoming or that I know is worth more than 15 coins, or when I get a shard.

I'll have to see how it goes as I continue to play ...

There is this elusive thing that game developers seek called game balance. When a game is under development, they tweak this and that to try to achieve that.

Game balance means that the game is not too easy to bore people, nor too complicated or difficult to frustrate people.

Of course, different games seek a different balance point: a kids game or party game will seek an easier point of balance than a long game for adults.

There is also a need to account for different styles of play, and make each style interesting for the player without giving too much advantage to one player style to the disadvantage of other styles..

Online games have their own criteria for game balance. For online games, there needs to be enough challenge, intrigue and interest to keep people coming back. It cannot be "solved" too quickly, lest the players wander off before they have time to develop the next update. But it cannot be frustrating to the point it is no longer fun.

There is also the idea of paying the developers. There has to be some incentives or players to buy diamonds or coins: something that will give faster access to special treats, for example.

I like games where those incentives are about how quickly you can get the treat, not whether you can get it at all. For the most part, MC has been keeping a fairly decent game balance, where any player, whether or not they buy diamonds, can work to reach an achievement.

Some of the new achievements set the time to achieve without diamonds a bit too far out: years instead of months of regular play. The change in drop rates is also edging the time toward the longer, more frustrating level.

I think the Devs miscalculated the appropriate game balance, and it has reached frustration territory. I do not think it was malicious, or aimed to make players unhappy, but that is what it has done.

I do like that they finally brought out the rainbow dragon. I am looking forward to finally being at a level where I can get it (many levels from now). I expect there will be other things I like about the update. But the change in drops from a HOS seems an error on the part of the Devs that has unbalanced the game toward frustration.

I hope the Devs fix it.

As so many on this thread, I am unhappy with this latest update. I will not belabour the point about the percentage of item drops, and the uselessness of 15 coins or 1 shard in the HOS drops. This point has been made.
Trina (from a previous update) is a waste of inventory, once you get your room and open slots. And so I have no need at this time for the paltry gift she gives of one key at a time, when my postcards and shards can be used elsewhere to better effect.
The other thing that I have found with this update is that Trina's slot machine is stuck. I went in there today to get my free spin, won a green stamp, but didn't get it. The slot machine is stuck in the open position, and will not spit out my winnings. I went to back out of the room and managed to accidentally click on spin for 3 diamonds. It took my diamonds, didn't spin and so again did not spit anything out. Won't be going back in there I don't think.
I do think the Christmas room was pretty awesome as the only way to get rid of the otherwise useless "gifts for your friends", in return for getting the Santa medallions, and other useful items.
I think that going to a zoom zone either for a straight character request or to craft a requested item, only to have to go to two or three other zz's in line to get an item required for the first zz is pretty chintzy (especially when each zz requires more than one of each item), and in no way adds to the game ... (I am thinking about SixPac, and the Bow Figure, and most especially the Poisonous Flower).
I find that I cannot usually complete the DQ's in the required time, as I play once a day for 1 to 1 1/2 rounds. I am guessing with this new update I will most likely reduce that time to once or twice a week, as it gets boring not being able to complete at least one character quest in a round. Boring = not so much interest in playing regularly.
Being a relative newcomer (I am only at level 27 on PC although I have been playing this game for a year plus) I have few friends, and have recently dropped a number of them for non-return of gifting. As for the friends that DO return gift, I will no longer be able to help out as much, because of the reduced item drops. Sorry folks, esp to Zillidillen who has faithfully gifted

I find it sad that the Devs have taken an enjoyable game and turned it into a grind.

Lexy54 (Allie on MC)

In my humble opinion the most recent update will remain in history as the most unfair update ever.
I'm too one step from deleting the game, very disappointed and sad.
But I still have faith in our developers/MC team,we know that they "DO listen" and they must make some changes.
I have nothing more to add(I think they've got the picture by now)
....I will give them some days more, to fix this mess......hope for the best.

A note to our hard working MODS

With all due respect, I understand that maybe you don't have answers capable to restrict all this anger and players withdrawal.
But I read in all MODS posts the same phrase, which is wrong.

" Items will still drop from scenes when searching regularly, but sometimes shards or coins will drop instead."

More accurate will be

"Shards or coins will drop from scenes when searching regularly and sometimes items will drop instead."

I'm sure that's not only my opinion, many players will be able to confirm this, even those who like the recent update.

You may want to change it, because it is inaccurate and doesn't help at all the situation, on the contrary adds more anger and frustration to players.

Aurora..I use the strategy guide routinely.. I look to see what I will need to open and what I'll have to spend to craft for each level... which, is how I knew how long I'd have to do the rounds... many of the tips and tricks, like where does it come from, where does it go, when I open a new HO, lets me know what items I will need the most of, and what items I could keep at a minimum for crafting....

I'm on level 57... crafting for profit is invaluable... and only going to become more valuable as the levels increase... (it also helped to sell those items I knew were used less often ... for 30 coins, instead of the 15 coins that drop instead)... I try NOT to craft too much as this will eat up your stamps, too... It's a balancing act...

I did stop questing for four months, and just did rounds... this took me from level 51- level 57.... I am doing rounds again, four more months of doing this, will not take me through as many levels as before because I will not make as many coins selling items... meaning, I'm afraid to sell anything... (I'd much rather have 30 coins for selling that monstrous claw, than a 15 coin drop, but now, I won't sell it)

I had MORE than one on my friend's wishlist, who quit at just below, or just above this level, 6-8 months ago... and that was THEN, when they had the HO items they could sell, or use for crafting...
