High Scores in Competitions

Hi - I've been playing a lot of the competitions to try and get a higher score than 1300. I notice that some people get over 1800 points!

No matter how hard I try, and how fast I am, I cannot get past 1300.

Is there a certain strategy or help that the higher winners are doing?

Any help would be appreciated.
