Tips and Tricks for Tradewinds Caravans

[Post New]by bfgAegean on Jun 27, 08 9:59 AM
Save Often – The paths of the Silk Road are dangerous indeed. So make sure you save often during your quest. It will save you many a hardship if you do so that you do not have to replay long sections of the game because you ran afoul of bandits.

Ready, Aim, Fire – When you start making a bit more money, better fighters will become available to you at local guilds. Supplement your caravan with lots of Elite Archers. When placed behind frontline fighters, Elite Archers will help you strike down your enemies with precision.

Visit Local Temples – When you visit a city that has a temple, check out what the traders are selling. Traders sell unique objects that you can not find in the marketplace, which can give you bonuses to combat ability and purchasing power.

These are just a few hints to help you out. If you have any more suggestions, post them below!

I'm finding this a very difficult game to get anywhere with. I have both of the first games and loved them - replayed many times with different characters. But ... this one has me really stumped. There are too many encounters with bandits, etc. early in the game for you to get a chance to build up your forces and money to buy better fighters. Any hints besides saving your game often ??

You don't HAVE to fight early in the game unless you are clicking on "next city" and then you don't have a choice. By controlling the route, you can explore and pick up extra items.

I also start out buying/selling to earn money and then buying superior warrior guys first.

So, you just wander around near the city you start in ? How do you make any money trading goods??
I see a lot of "items" outside the cities, things that look like fire pits, roadside temples, something that looks like a pit with spikes in it, but when I go there nothing happens. Have found a sack of "treasure" occasionally, but that's it. Any ideas?
Perhaps I'm missing a "search" button or something.

I was so excited when this game came out! I am a fan of the Tradewinds games, and this captured my imagination. To start with. Til I started playing it. Or trying to.

I'm with you, Skyebluetoo...I am finding this game somewhat annoying -- just can't seem to get anywhere with it. I really enjoy playing the other Tradewinds games, but this one seems to have set the bar a little too high. I have tried the avoiding the fighting like Lady Gecko has suggested, and also the selling fiasco <VBG> I go broke very quickly lol...

Perservere and keep on trying, I guess. I Have to get it right eventually, surely!

I agree with both Miz_Kaz & Skyebluetoo.. this game is annoying.
I liked Tradewinds Legends and Unlikely Heroes, but the constant walking around is bothersome. I have completed the game with the monk and the mother. The stories are different but the tasks remain very similar.

Hello there i saw that one of you was wondering how to get out of the first two citys. I can not speak for any of the other people that you play but playing the monk you must talk to someone in the city who tells you to go into the wilderness and talk to someone elese(when you talk to them they give you a map that opens up some more citys. As you go along and get more quests or move further west you open up more citys i have mad it to constantinople. I will play again and update this with better information (did not write down who to talk to and where they send you etc)

This game is so much fun, but it can be really tricky. In the start the trick is to avoid fight unless you have lots of fighters, do this by wondering the routes. Moreover you also have to complete quests to open up new cities. When you start the game you will be in a city one of the buliding will have a big ! over it talk to the people there and you get sent somewhere else. This other place will have a ! over it in a green and red cicle so head towards it. To get more money in the start walk the routes to find treasure and when you get it only sell half and keep the other half for emergencys. I always max out my party with basic warriors in the start and take on bandits as i out number somtime 4 to 1 and can earn good rewards by defeating them, plus basic warriors are cheap and easy to replace. When i get more money i hire 4 combat troops 5 horse/Elephant units and 3 bowmen and then add support units like a summoner or healers. Never by Elephants for combat to early as they are really expensive to heal and you want a least a hundred thousand before buying any one final tip is you are finding it really hard going to make money head to Bactra and buy lots of western goods then head up the route to Turfan only two stops away and sell your western goods (which are not avalible in this eastern city so worth a lot) use the money to buy lots of eastern goods and then head back down to Bactra and sell it and make more money keep doing this till you can afford the best good and make the most money then you can afford the best units and beast for your carvan. You can take this even more extreme later in the game and load up with really expesive goods at one end of the route such a Karkokum and then sell it all in Damascus for sometime triple the price. For first time player the priest is the easiest to play in my opinion as he starts off with a far amount of money and can heal units. The mother and the princess are also good but have slightly trickier routes. The cammal dragons routes is very fun when you unlock it. Hope this helps/
