Level 10-1 Expert *lots of spoilers*

Extra special thanks to the following two gamers:

festclick for the very informative posts and great videos. I'd still be stuck on 2-5 otherwise and wouldn't have reinstalled the game!

EnvirEng for posting a condensed version of this strategy last year. I finally got it.

Notes:
-I have game version 1.0.0.59 for the PC. You can check your game version by going to the credits screen.

-I number the rings from the center out; ring 1 is the closest to the center and ring 8 is the topmost one.

-The 12 columns of the entire playing field are numbered as clock positions for this thread. Hopefully this isn't too confusing. As an example, ring 8 looks like this (numbers in bold are where the gray/green blockers are) 12 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11. The free column at the top of the board I call 12 o'clock, even though it isn't exactly centered.

Opening sequence:

1. Rotate the orange tile at ring 7, 6 o'clock counterclockwise to 3 o'clock, dropping it in the gap.

2. There are 2 green tiles at 12 o'clock. Rotate them both clockwise to 3 o'clock. [edit] Spin the lower green tile first, then the upper one...if you get this backwards, you won't be able to do the rest of the move sequence in the subsequent posts (yes, I mess this up sometimes, LOL).

3. Pick up the tile in ring 7, 12 o'clock and drop it at 1 o'clock. Pick up the next tile in ring 7, 12 o'clock again, and drop it at 2 o'clock.

4. A green tile now appears at 12 o'clock. Rotate this clockwise to 3 o'clock to clear the green blocker in ring 8 with a M4.

5. There are two green blockers at 11 o'clock, rings 3 and 5, with three green tiles in the vicinity in adjacent rings. Rotate the green in ring 6 clockwise to 11 o'clock, then rotate the green in ring 4 clockwise to the gap and drop it down to ring 2. Rotate this same green tile counterclockwise to 11 o'clock. Finally rotate the third green in ring 4 clockwise to 11 o'clock to M5/remove the paired green blockers.

6. There is a blue blocker at 1 o'clock, ring 5, with blue tiles in the vicinity. Rotate the blue tile in ring 4, 12 o'clock clockwise, dropping it to ring 3 at the gap underneath the blue blocker. Then rotate the cyan tile at ring 4 , 12 o'clock one space counterclockwise to get it out of the way. This drops down a pair of blue tiles next to the blue blocker. Rotate ring 6 then ring 4 clockwise to M5/clear the blue blocker.

Next, clear the rest of the ring 5 blockers and paired lower blockers:
[post divided to two parts due to length]

1. There is a cracked purple blocker at 8 o'clock, ring 5 and a purple tile in rings 4 (10 o'clock) and 6 (4 o'clock) respectively. Rotate the purples over to 8 o'clock to clear the purple blocker.

2. There are a pair of orange blockers at 9 o'clock, rings 1 and 3. A blue tile is sitting on top of the ring 3 one. Rotate this blue tile one space clockwise to get it out of the way and drop an orange tile on top of the blocker. Rotate the other orange tile in ring 2, 2 o'clock counterclockwise to M4/clear the paired orange blockers.

3. There is a blue blocker at 10 o'clock, ring 5 with blue tiles nearby. Rotate the blue in ring 7, 9 o'clock clockwise to 10 o'clock. Rotate the blue in ring 6, 12 o'clock counterclockwise to 10 o'clock to M4/remove the blue blocker.

4. There are a pair of green blockers at 8 o'clock, rings 1 and 3. Rotate the green tile in ring 4, 1 o'clock counterclockwise to 8 o'clock. Rotate the green tile in ring 2, 11 o'clock counterclockwise to 8 o'clock to M4/clear the paired green blockers.

5. There are a pair of red blockers at 12 o'clock, rings 1 and 3 and red tiles in adjacent rings. Rotate the red in ring 4, then the one in ring 2 to M4/clear the paired red blockers.

6. There is a cracked green blocker at 2 o'clock, ring 5 and two green tiles in the adjacent rings at 12 o'clock. Rotate the green in ring 6 first, then the green in ring 4 over to 2 o'clock to clear the green blocker.

Clearing ring 5 blockers, continued:

7. There is an orange blocker at 4 o'clock, ring 5 with an orange tile underneath it and two orange tiles at 3 o'clock. Rotate the green tile in ring 7, 3 o'clock one space clockwise to get it out of the way. Then rotate the orange in ring 7, then the orange in ring 6 clockwise one space to M4/clear the orange blocker.

8. There is a blue blocker in ring 5, 6 o'clock. Rotate the blue tile in ring 4, 12 o'clock clockwise to 6 o'clock, then rotate the blue in ring 6 one space clockwise to M3/crack the blue blocker.

9. A cyan tile will drop into ring 6 at 6 o'clock. Rotate this cyan one space counterclockwise to clear the cracked cyan blocker at 5 o'clock.

10. Rotate blue tile in ring 4, 12 o'clock counterclockwise to 6 o'clock. Rotate blue tile in ring 6, 3 o'clock clockwise to 6 o'clock to clear the blue blocker.

11. Now there is only one blocker left in ring 5, a green one at 7 o'clock and there are 2 green tiles at 6 o'clock. Rotate ring 4 one space to drop the greens down one space at 6 o'clock. Then rotate ring 6, then ring 4 to M4/clear the green blocker.

Third, set up ring burst in ring 3:

1. There are two small bursts in ring 2. Rotate and explode them at 7 o'clock and 10 o'clock to remove gray blockers in ring 1.

2. There should be 2 paired blue tiles at 4 o'clock, the lower one in ring 2. Move the ring 2 blue out of the way but don't let the ring 3 blue drop down any. Rotate the other rings around, using the gaps as needed, to set up a M5 with the ring 3 blue being the lowest tile of the M5. This will give you a column burst, which should be exploded immediately.

3. A stack of blue and green tiles now drops into the column. There should be a green tile at ring 3. Rotate and drop tiles so that a green M5 is created in the column, with the green at ring 3 being the lowest tile in the M5 stack. This will give you a small burst, which again should be exploded immediately.

4. There is now a blue tile in ring 3 of the same column. Rotate/drop blue tiles as needed to create a blue M5 with the ring 3 blue being the lowest tile of the M5 stack. This will give you a ring burst. Explode it to clear the remaining few blockers in ring 3. Note: if for some reason a cascade occurs and drops the ring burst to ring 2, the board must be restarted as the ring burst has to be used in ring 3.

5. An enigma appears. M3 it immediately with blue tiles to get rid of it.

This is the longest part of the level so I will not give an exact move sequence, but the general idea can be gotten from these tips.

-Blue and green are abundant and everything else is relatively rare. You must focus on making M5s as fast as possible (about every 5-10 seconds). This is easiest done by dropping/rotating the blues and greens, but any M5 pattern you see should be utilized no matter what color.

-Whenever you get a burst, use it. This is completely counterintuitive to how the game is typically played, as in all other levels you want to save your bursts for bonus points, but you have to unlearn that just for 10-1. This is because all the M5s you make will end up in rings 1, 2, or 3 and if you do not clear the bursts out, they slow down your M5 creation too much.

-Use the small and change bursts on the right side of the playing field (blue/green sectors). This rearranges the blues/greens regularly to help you with your M5s. The one exception is the cyan blocker in ring 1 over the orange cylinder. That one can be pesky, so I often clear it with a small burst if the cyans aren't lining up.

-Do not fill the cyan or orange cylinders more than half full for as long as possible. Usually, one of the cylinders will fill itself faster than the other anyway, but don't get them both really full before the timer is at 25% or so.

-Pay attention to where the cyan and orange tiles are before exploding a ring burst. If there are any cyan or orange over their respective cylinders, the ring burst will send all those tiles into the cylinder and can end the level prematurely, so move cyan and orange out of the way before getting rid of ring bursts.

More tips:

-Enigmas and binders will have a blue or green tile in them. Use M3s to get rid of them quickly as soon as they appear, instead of trying to make M5s with them, because they will slow you down.

-Play for as long as possible (about 5 minutes once ring 3 is cleared of blockers), because getting expert means running the timer virtually all the way down (try not to panic while you're working on those last few matches to fill either the cyan or orange cylinder).

-It is possible to get enough column bursts to clear all the ring 8 gray blockers but some luck is required when there are 3 grays or less left, since the gaps that make the M5s easy to make have largely disappeared at this point. However, you do not need to clear all the blockers for expert if you can manage to create and explode enough bursts in the level. I have done it twice with one gray left and it's possible to get to the 8000 points before the level ends.
[edit] You will likely remove the grays on the right side first. When you get down to two grays left in ring 8, start shifting some of the blue/green or whatever M5s to the left side of the playing field (but avoid cyan/orange over their respective cylinders). The eighth column burst, if it appears, has always shown up on the left side for me, often between 8 and 10 o'clock and I've always used it to remove not only the last blocker in ring 8 but also either a couple of cyan or orange tiles to finish the level.

-If you do manage to clear all the blockers, it's a little shocking that the all blockers cleared bonus is just 6000 points (you can get 7000 on at least one other level for doing the same elsewhere).

-It takes a lot of practice to get the hang of making the M5s fast enough, so keep trying and good luck!
