Running in Windows Differently

[Post New]by temp_89120 on Apr 15, 14 2:06 PM
Don't particularly care for the casino.

Really like the new chapter selection.

Haven't tried the neighborhood blitzes. Am still collecting the free neighborhood stuff (energy, silver, Xp).

Haven't tried any of the HO scenes yet.

The main change that I see is how the game is running in Windows. I have a non-touch PC, Windows 8.0 and don't use FaceBook. I run DM in reduced size. On my 24" monitor this allows me to stream a video in another reduced window. Prior to this update, doing anything outside the DM window caused DM to suspend - everything stopped and another window popped up to cover most of it and announced that it missed me and wanted me to come back. DM would not continue until I click on it again. I would have to start my video then make DM active and the video would continue to play. Click on the video, on the desktop, opening Notepad - doing anything else would suspend DM. Now DM continues to run even while I'm typing this in Notepad and even if I minimize it. I think that this is great.

Hmmm.. I put mine in windows mode, and came here.. It still pauses the action in Dark Manor for me.. I can visibly see the "Paused" "Come back! We miss you!" and my walkers are stopped in their tracks.

That would have been great if it hadn't.. I could come here and let my ??? machines run, then go back to full screen to play an HOS game.

Now I'm a bit worried. Hopefully when I eventually exit and shut my PC down tonight, I'll still have this functionality tomorrow...

Are you on Windows 8.0 too?

I seemed to have read that there were possibly two PC updates yesterday. I took the early one and have not checked to see if I have another. I'll check tomorrow.

I exited DM and restarted Windows. Started DM from the icon and it still continues to run if I access the desktop or another application. Exited again and started the BigFish Game Manager. Manually checked for updates and there is one for DM. Since I currently do not have any problems that I know of with DM, I will not apply the second update at this time.

Perhaps someone else has a similar experience?

I did download the big update yesterday and then the 2nd update today. I still haven't noticed a difference in how the game works for me.
The note just said the update was "to fix bugs" and something else I don't remember.
I really hope these updates are fixing problems that so many players have been dealing with.
If you start having any kind of problems, I would rethink downloading the 2nd update.

I had a simular problem "before" the update. When I would exit DM either clicking the X in windows mode or going through all 6 exit buttons, DM would continue running in the background. I could see the load on my CPU and RAM meter. So would have to go to task manager and shut down manually. I did a real good clean up on my PC, and it stopped. Don't ask me what the problem was, but the clean up seemed to fix it. Maybe give it a try. hth

I'm confused. Explain what is meant by "in Windows mode" and what would be out of Windows mode? I run Windows 7 Pro and have never had a problem. I just don't understand where I should be seeing anything to switch in and out of Windows.

There are two ways for the DM to display on your PC, full screen (edge to edge) which is the default display. And there is windows mode (which is displayed in a smaller window on your monitor, you can see your desktop around it), two ways to do this click the cog wheel in the upper right corner and click off full screen (don't click the wide screen button) or you can alt./enter on your keyboard. hth

I am on a pc, I am not sure if windows mode is part of the iOS platform or not..

This is by memory (Dark Manor is down for maintenance), so I might not have the wording.. But under you options button (the cog wheel one of the first switches on the right side of the popup is something like "Full Screen" and the switch of yes/no.. Normally it is set to "yes" and your DarkManor game takes over the whole screen... If you move the switch to "no" then the DarkManor game shrinks in size and you can see and do other things on your desktop (but for game it is at a smaller size), this is windows mode.

Would be nice in Windows mode that you could play the game and do something else.. Like if I could be on the forum and also monitor my walkers and ??? machines.. For quilteddawg it seems it does.. For me if I click on anything else on my desktop the game pauses, my walkers stop in their tracks..

Anyway windows mode is also helpful to send messages to neighbors.. If you are not in windows mode your typing is hard with charactors needing multiple clicks before it is accepted and no punctuation seem to work.. In Windows mode the typing is a lot easier (like normal typing) and you get your punctuation.

HooserAmy we must have cross posted.. I did not know about the alt/enter I will have to try that.. Seems it may be easier, and sometimes I have to move to a different screen to get the option menu.. Like once you are in the visiting a neighbor and want to send a message about something on their grounds, but no options menu there.

~Moosetracker...lol great minds...and all that! But hey, you can never have to much information out there. I use alt/enter all the time, I got use to always running in windows mode, as it seemed to cause less crashing.

Small correction for whatever it's worth: It's called windowed mode- not windows.

HoosierAmy - I don't have a problem with shutting DM down. Exiting works just fine. What I have is a recent benefit that I guess noone else got and that is that I can do other activities on my PC and DM will continue as an active window. If I check for forum activity, my Walkers continue to walk. If I'm reading through my emails, my Walkers continue to walk. And so forth. I'm not complaining.

Sorry for not getting what you were saying, I like your glitch much better than mine!

No longer able to start DM - it tells me to do the update.

New update has 'fixed' my benefit. If DM is not the last window that I click on/in, it now pauses again with the 'Come back! We Miss You!' message displayed.

Well Done BF/Tomozaru!

Thanks for the sentiment.

I would have been happy if others could have gotten it too.

Are all on-line games like this? You can't play them and do other things at the same time?

Don't know, the only other one I played you had to play while on internet explorer, and I think you had to be in it, but then it didn't have walkers or things that could work without your curser clicking on things.. So... I don't know..
