I'm in Big Trouble

[Post New]by Calsha on Jul 2, 08 9:21 PM
I'm tearing my hair out here!
I got a new computer just a few months ago and the trouble I've had with it!
Twice Windows has had to be re-installed. I won't bother telling you all the problems, too many !!!!
My SIL, who I get my computers from, manages to fix it but now I have 2 more issues.
I lost the CD/DVD drive several days ago. The driver is missing or corrupted! I am going to my SIL's on Sunday and he is going to install another driver...... but
today out of the blue My Big Fish games don't load. There is a missing SHFOLDER.DLL missing! I get this message with every game I try to open! Even the bfgclievnt.exe.
I've sent a SOS to the Big Fish help ....hoping that someone can help.

I've yet to ask my SIL as he is not home yet.

I feel like throwing the new computer back, and getting a complete replacement. It is under guarentee, but SIL thinks it's spyware I get from the net! But I only go to "good and safe sites!!!! I have a good anti-virus and use Search and Destroy and have a good registry cleaner.
I just had to write this, got rid of a bit of frustration!!!

Will keep in touch, cross fingers for me.

Fingers and toes crossed. darn ... sounds like a real mess. Hope all goes well with SIL and fix. I'd only give it one more chance ... then it'd be out the door. Make sure to document all the problems and fixes ... then problems and fixes, etc. You'll want documentation in case there's any questions or problems returning it. Luck

Calsha, man oh man. It doesn't sound good at all. If that were my computer, I would take the whole darn thing back and get a new one. Sounds like it's going to be one thing after another. I have zero patience for computers that act up.

Best of luck.

Calsha, I vote with the others. Take the computer back. Sounds to me like you have a virus of sorts that is eating your files. Where did you get it from??

Calsha, so sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm with knoxstar, I'd take it back and get a whole new set up. Like scotcat I have zero patience with computers acting up, my first thought is to put under my rear tire and floor it. You work hard for what you get and then you get one that has issues, gosh I hate that. Wish I could send you one of mine. Good luck with getting this resolved, and know you have us behind you.

Gee Calsha, I sure do hope you can either take it back or fix it soon! Funny how our computers have become so important to us--just can't live without them anymore! I'll keep all of my squid thingies crossed for you!

You would have to put me in a straight jacket and throw me in a padded room if my computer broke down! Calsha, I'm with everyone else here, just take it back and get a new one! It's still under warranty, so why take a chance?

Good afternoon, I was pulling my hair out with this brand new computer a few months ago. I put on some software and messed it up. Now I have very little memory left for recovery. I don't think I could run it back through system recovery if I had too.
I would take it back and explain to them what happened.

Thanks for all your messages.
Life was so much easier before computers!

I tell the checkout people at supermarkets that and they look at me as if I am nuts! Of course most of them didn't have a life before computers.

My SIL owns the business of making up and selling computers. I get good deals from him and he is usually on hand to help me with problems. But this has really tried my patience. So much has been going on. Now I get error messages about the file that runs the scan for Pc-cillin and it won't scan!

I had the bright (!) idea of copying the missing .dll file off my laptop and putting it into my XP PC, but! I forgot that one of my problems was the missing driver for my CD/DVD drive so I cant do it that way. I used to have the 2 computers linked but Vista on the laptop is a bit choosey what it will share!

Hubby has just got on to the laptop to play his favourite game. I can hook up the laptop to my 22" widescreen monitor which I will do when I take this away on Sunday!

At least the XP is still working on line and I can get into the forums and keep an eye on you girls.
BTW I meant to ask before are there any people of the male kind on these forums or are they all away working to keep you all in your habit!

I believe most of the people that post here regular are women. I think the hubby's either don't care about all this or men in general play the games but aren't into chit-chat. Just like in real life.

My husband loves to play the games but leaves the chit-chat to me.

I think most of the folks who chat are women. I think we have men looking in the forums if they need hints or tips ... and may ask a question now and then. But don't think they chat much.

Hey Calsha,

sorry to hear about your computer trouble, it does sound like something fishy (pardon the pun ) is going on here.

while you're waiting, you could try reinstalling the game manager, that might replace some on the files that it is looking for ...

check the help pages,

good luck I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks MadPoet for the suggestion.
I re-installed Game manager but that wouldn't load.
I need a the missing .dill file.
I have d/l the DLL but it needs to be extracted and I haven't an unzip programme!
Used to have WinZip, but have nothing on the new Compuer. I've decided not to try anything on my own as tomorrow I see my SIL.

(it's my great-grandaughter's 1st birthday on the 7th) a very special baby born on the 7/7/07!! She got a mention in the local papers

I tried to load Ad-Aware to check the PC but it needs the same .dll too!!!
The Pc-cillin won't scan...but fortunately it still updates and watches the email.

Gremlins! They are running all over and in my PC. Thank goodness I have the laptop to play Amazon on.

I can't get into the garden because of the bad weather so am at the computer more than usual. Hubby recorded the US Tennis on TV so he's out of the way and the coast is clear for me to be here.

Reminds me of what happened when I got my HP a few years back....worked fine, but then as soon as we loaded any kind of software on it it would freeze. So we would have to reformat and it worked fine until...again...we loaded any kind of software that wasn't facotry installed. I can't tell you how many times we called CS and they had us reformat and do this and that and nothing worked. They even had it sent back to them 3 times.. at their expense, no less...and the last time we sent it back they even did something with the motherboard and no dice. It never worked right from day one. Finally got rid of the stupid thing and got ourselves a Dell.
