letting go of the cotton ball

I guess I made a fatal error by picking up the cotton ball before I opened the disinfectant and now I am not able to let go of it. I tried closing the game and reopening it but still had the cotton ball in hand! What's up with that?

Hi! I had this same problem but after a bunch of random clicking, I found out that you can right click to let go of the cotton ball.
