Hoyle Illusions

[Post New]by bfgFlounder on Aug 5, 14 12:29 AM
In turn of the century New York City, two rival magicians will compete to decide once and for all, which of the two is the better illusionist - Johannes the Great or Merlin the Amazing!

But, before the performance, something goes terribly wrong. Johannes' assistant, Sophie, is kidnapped and ransomed to her sweetheart, Peter - for the price of Johannes' defeat and death onstage.

Play as Peter and Sophie in this epic hidden object adventure as you attempt to outsmart villains, magic spells, illusions, and other obstacles! Will you get to the theater on time and save the day?

Gorgeous cut scenes for story and transitions
Thrilling Hidden Object Gameplay!
Challenging mini games and puzzles

I am confused! I this day 2. offer, and go to the forum to read about the game.I find the game in the list and the players write about a Mahjong game!!

I go back to front page, finds the game to make sure that I´m not crazy. Copypaste and go back to forum. To find that they have changed the forum to the correct game.

I now searce in the Mahjong games and find a game with the excact same name, but now it´s a mahjong game:

Embark on a new and exciting magical Mahjongg adventure! Enjoy a variety of tile sets, myriad levels, beautiful environments, layout variations and much more! Seek and find each level as you experience Sophie's story and the magic of Hoyle Illusions Mahjongg!

120 unique levels and hours of game-play
Beautiful backgrounds & locations
A variety of tile sets, trophies and more!

Have the developer split the game, to make money on it twice?? First as a Mahjong game, and now as a hidden object game??

Mai, it's probably just a duplicate title by two different Devs. Why these devs used the name Hoyle in a game is beyond me, they probably aren't English speaking and did it out of ignorance. "Hoyle" is generally associated with board and card games. Many centuries ago Edmond Hoyle developed rule books for many, many card games that are still in use today. "According to Hoyle" is a common phrase in English used to denote the correct rules in a game. So, there are quite a few games out there with the name Hoyle in them, e.g., the mahjongg game. Whether or not they play by Hoyle's rules is up for debate.

Ladylark; Thanks for the info. I didn´t know the Hoyle story, now I do
If I google the game, with pictures, I can see that the main caracters appear in both type of game. There must be a connection...

Out of curiosity, I found and downloaded the mahjong version.

The 'story' is identical, the scenes are identical. What intrigues me most is, the download overwrote my previous Hoyle Illusion download on my GM.

Just as well I had no intention of buying.

All very weird!

Tufty57,you're right cause I know I've played this game before and I didn't beta it.Its bad to bring up an identical game even if Bf says its knew its not.The same scenes even to running in the alley. The loft scene with the sand bag the same.So I to won't bite into buying it,even though I have a coupon expiring the 6th.

Hey Everyone

It looks like there was a mixup between the forum links for Hoyle Illusions, today's new release, and Hoyle Illusions Mahjongg, which was released in January. For some reason, the new game was linking to the forum for the older game, instead of to the newly created forum that you were all able to find.

Hoyle Illusions is a new game, and we're really sorry for the confusion this caused. We've gotten everything fixed, so each game should have a link to their correct forum.

I've included links to both of the games for anyone who may want to check them out:

Hoyle Illusions

Hoyle Illusions Mahjongg

We truly apologize for the mixup and want to thank you all for being patient while this was sorted out

I noticed that too, twinsoniclab, but you beat me to it!

Yet to have a response about the 'overwriting' when you download the mahjong game after the HOG. Just as well they are both so dire that a purchase will not be forthcoming from me.

It looks as if Hoyle have asked their contracted partner for these two games to take the Mahjongg version and make it into a HOG, and an old-fashioned, dark one of way back in the day at that. These two games are endorsed by Hoyle as they are sold on their own website, so there's no question as to copyright/TM infringement.

I find this a little disappointing, to say the least. I have many Hoyle card / board/ casino / puzzle compilations on disk that I have collected over the years and that's what they stand for. They have other titles in their online catalogue in the HOG category, but this really takes the biscuit.

I'm no techie, but all I can think (if they've put two together and perhaps in a hurry) is that there's some coding someone missed so that the two games do not distinguish between each other, hence they override one another; whichever way around that may happen.

More time and money spent, plus looking at what we are all expecting these days may have been more worthwhile. Sorry to be a misery guts, but I've loved Hoyle for so many years as I'm a total card and board game nut, so it's disappointing .

ETA: I put that in the wrong place. It was meant to go at the end of 'disappointing' in the last para. I've just put it there now. Just wanted to clarify, because it could be construed totally differently. Blame Baloo . He often falls over on my keyboard and causes all manner of havoc

But, did you really want the games anyway? I can see that being a problem if you did, but no one seems to want either one of them!

(I forgot to comment on The Prestige mention you gave. Love it! One of my all time favorite actors, plus two that are eye candy! And the story's good too, the first time was a real surprise!)

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!
