Stuck in Journey to the Center of the Earth

I am in the crystal cave and I do not know what to do with the crystal at the top of the ladder or the contraption on the other side of the cave. Can anyone help?

you have to go in the mine and pick up the chisel then climb the ladder with the chisel AND the petrified log from the beach. then you can place the crystal on the contraption, don't forget the sand!

How do you get the chisel and the log at the same time? I have tried the chisel and the petrified log ( and everything else) but I cant get more than one item at a time.

I have combined the chisel and wood, but nothing happens when I click on the crystal ! Can you advise me ?
OK, I found out that you need to wear the gloves to free the crystal, then you must go outside to get some sand at the cave entrance for use in the pouch to polish the gem. Of course the gem must be placed on the stand and I also used the bottle of cleaning solution from the med kit then pumped the bellows.
You must also wear the gloves to replace the wires in the switchbox to get the lights to come on in the mine.
