I've played quite a lot of them, and should suggest Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon, to start off. It romps along, with one puzzle after another. You need to make lots of notes, and "Screenprints" really save having to take drawing lessons, or dive back and forth between locations. Apart from that, this one doesn't have an overwhelming amount of dialogue, which I quite like.
I also recommend Blackmoor Manor, and Castle Malloy. The only one a really didn't like was the Venice one - I forget what it was called. It had a lot of trouping about, and not enough puzzles.
That said, they're all amongst the best I've played.

I liked the Haunted Carousel and it is recommended as a start off point for ND games. I've only played a few of these but liked the Deception Island one best so far.....I like Orca's.
I've found that I've had to rely on a walkthru a little bit through the games. Sometimes I don't know what to do and sometimes my kids are too impatient for me to figure it out. They like to watch me play them.
