Tips and Tricks for Governor of Poker

[Post New]by bfgAegean on Jul 30, 08 9:34 AM
Try and hold out – If you find yourself low on chips and low in the standing, try and hold out. If you’re not the big or small blind, and you don’t have a great hand already, just fold. Let the computer players defeat each other, because most tournaments have cash prizes for coming in places other than first.

Learn to bluff
– A very important skill to excel at in poker is bluffing. For example, if the flop contains a pair and most of the computer players check on it, raise the bet. More often than not the computer will think you have a 3 of a kind or two pairs, and will fold.

Raise money off your property – If you are short on chips to enter a tournament, simply advance to the next day. Each time you do, you gain money off the properties you already own. You can continue to do this until you have the money you need to enter a tournament.

These are just a few hints to help you out. If you have any other suggestions, post them below!

The trick to progressing in this game is definately to buy houses. The more houses you own, the more money you earn each day. If you can manage to get through the first 3 towns, once you are into the next three, you are able to sell any properties you have previously bought, to raise money. This way you can fund your games and purchase the more profitable properties, and so on. This way, you can easily top up your cash by clicking 'next day' if you loose in a game. Just remember that you will need to go back at some point and buy any you have sold before you can play the climax to the game. I also think you win more money (& can therefore buy more houses!) if you play the tournaments rather than than the cash games.

Been reading the posts by people all over about this game. Like most others I have gone through a learning curve with this trying to figure out how to win. Lets face it...Poker takes a blend of skill and luck. At its core this game is just poker and seems to be absolutly random in dealing out to players. I have only made it past the first 4 towns, but I had to develop a strategy to make it. The best advice I have found is to fold inferior hands, especially at the beginning of tournaments and to wait out the players as they get busted from the tables. I fold any cards that are not ten or above. In other words play 10/Jack or 10/King or Jack/Queen or similar cards as long as both are ten or above. This gives you a real chance to win a hand against the 4 or 5 who stay through the flop. I gaurantee you there will be at least a pair of something that is on the table. If you flop a pair or better stay in the hand, if other players are betting make sure you can beat at least the low pair showing on the table. It will seem wrong to fold an Ace/5 or a King/9 at this point, but you have to give yourself a fighting chance to outlast the others to make it into the money. The only exception is if you have a pocket pair you will want to see the flop, but a pair of fours is useless if you see Q,K,9 on the flop because any pair of those will beat you. Follow this strategy till you get to the money positions, 5th place in tournaments after San Saba, then you will have to start betting with what you are delt. This will happen as a result of the blinds increasing and they will eat you up if you dont look for hands to win with. The upside is that with less players in the field the chance that a pair of nines is best on the table increases. No way thats good enough with 6 players in the hand.

I have been playing using 3 different names and have discovered when you reach "river" and you bet "all in" or matched "bet" and you lose, if you are real quick and hit the "quit" button then go back into the game you will be brought back into game just where it asks if you want to bet, just push the fold/skip button and you will still have your $$$. This works for me.

For each house you own you collect rent.
I believe its a dollar a day.

So $7 a week for one house.
do the math $14 a week for 2 houses $28 for 4 houses.
Later in the game houses that earn you more rent will become available.
