I've got stuck!

After playing the demo of Married in Manhattan I decided to buy it - and am enjoying it very much. Trouble is - I've got stuck and wonder whether anyone can help me. Sorry, can't say what level I'm on - although I know I'm a long way through the game having just done the last 'present' mini game. I'm in the bathroom, where a bottle of nail varnish has been spilt on the floor and you have to clear it up. I've opened the bathroom cabinet and found a bottle of nail varnish remover in there. I'm guessing I have to 'pick that up' (which puts it in the list on the left hand side) and then use it on the nail varnish spilt on the floor. Trouble is, I don't seem to be able to take it out of the cabinet. I think I've done everything else in this scene but obviously cannot proceed until I clean up the nail varnish.

Any suggestions (please)

You need to find the cotton ball ( sorry can't rember where it is...near the bathtub I think) and then use the cotton ball on the nail polish remover. You will then have a soaked cotton ball & use it on the spill.

Clue: You have to keep collecting the cotton balls. It was a bit tricky.

Oh dear! I'm probably being VERY stupid here but I still cannot seem to get out of the bathroom! I collected the cotton wool ball and mopped up the nail varnish. I then tried to put it in the rubbish bin (trash can for Americans) but the picture in the left hand column had gone dark (it would let me pick it up). I then had another look at the nail varnish inset and found another filled cotton wool ball, so did the same. Again it went dark in the left hand column and again wouldn't let me put it in the rubbish bin. All sections in the left hand column are now full and as I cannot pick any of the cotton balls up to put in the bin - I'm still stuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any ideas? I'm usually really good at working this sort of thing out, so this is really frustrating me

Thank you 'bfgaegean/Felix' At the risk of boring everyone by repeating myself - SILLY ME I'm still not sure what happened, or where I went wrong but after going in to the game several times I suddenly noticed there was a list in the bin (trash can). I still cannot remember being able to drag the cotton ball to the bin but must have done so for the list to have appeared. Is this yet another senior moment I ask myself. Thanks to everyone who has helped.
