I actually forgot I had this game until I read this post. Great game, I agree -- better than almost any of the match 3s. I played through it again, to see how level 90 went. I got through it first try, but I agree it gets very rough there at the end. I hate to say it, but the levels get harder after 90 -- 91, in fact, may be the most difficult level in the game.
My tips ... For level 90, I start with two bombs right off the bat -- hit one mid left and one mid right. I find this opens up enough cells to actually place pieces. I concentrate on the bottom half of the board, so falling pieces make their own matches on top. Then I save the ships for the latter part of the level and I ended up using them on the bottom rows.
I try to focus on army matches -- at this point, you should be destroying 45% of the board each time you fill the army bonus -- this is by far your best bonus and the one that will make or break the last levels.
I hope that helps.

If you really got past 90, please let the rest of us know how you did it!!

I gave up at level 98 too.
The rest were were okay, all I did was kept going in there once in a while just to go up levels. It's a pain of a game after level 90 but 98 is impossible.
Oh, well. Guess I'll never know how the story ends. I gave up on this game long ago.

Level 90
I use all three bombs and all three ships as soon as I start the level to clear as many locked tiles as possible. I run a ship through the third row from the top and two ships through the third row from the bottom. Then I use one bomb each in the upper right and lower left areas, then one bomb on the left of the third row from the top. The ones left will have to be cleared by matches or the hammer power up or the army power up.
Save the lightening bolt for near the end of the level. I think it is usually more difficult to clear all the tiles on this board as opposed to getting enough cannons. So near the end if you have enough cannons you can use the lightening bolt and click on an hour glass to hopefully get an hour glass power up and get more time. Sometimes that works and sometimes not, but it’s worth a try.
The army power up is very important in clearing tiles in this level, as it should clear 45% of the board.
As each power up becomes available, use it immediately, especially the hour glass. The power ups do not get stronger or accumulate more power if you let them sit unused as in some other games. If the Army and Hourglass power ups are both ready to use, always click on the Hourglass first and empty it to the time rope. Then click on the Army, as the Army will clear some hourglass tiles and send them to the now empty hourglass power up space.
I hope these tips help.
