Tips and Tricks for Tradewinds Odyssey

[Post New]by bfgCelebes on Jun 18, 09 2:58 PM
Prepare for battle! - Stock up as often as possible on blessings from the Altars as well as armaments for your ships in the Shipyards. This will ensure smooth sailing for you and your crew.

Utilize the map - Rolling your mouse over a city allows you to see more information about it, including what goods can be sold in that city. This can be incredibly helpful, since items that can be purchased are unlocked over time.

Sell, sell, sell! - Found yourself strapped for cash? Try going to a Reliquary and check out your inventory. Anything that's in your inventory can be sold for a little quick cash. Just don't sell anything that you may wish to own later that can't be repurchased from the Reliquary.

Feel free to add your own tips and tricks here!

Remember that you can make a new goods available in a port by sellling 10 units of it there. (Except for the contraband goods)

Also, the average price column shows only the average price you've paid for goods that are still in your possesion. However, it doesn't matter if it's in your ships or warehouse. Buying 1 of each type and tossing them in a warehouse somewhere can help in making a price reference on the agora menu.

The tip about selling 10 units is absolutely crucial to playing the game. It also comes up among the random chatter when you choose Talk at an Agora.

(Edited to remove error) As for the Avg, the price you bought your current batch for, there seems to be an occasional oddity, but it's mostly right. It may or may not notice the items that washed up for "free" after a battle--which of course uses up resources, just not in direct purchase!

----------------------------------------------

Another tip, not functional, just for maximum enjoyment: Whenever you acquire a new item, immediately choose Goods (blue link at the bottom of the screen), then Items (red link further up), and click on the item. This is the only way to see the (often amusing) description of items you can't sell in Reliquaries.

I say "immediately" because not infrequently an item will leave your possession very soon thereafter.

----------------------------------------------

And speaking of random chatter and enjoyment: Many of the offerings are worth reading. While others ...

W/ nowhere better to post it than this thread:

The 12,000-dr. Cup of Hermes gives you a 10% discount for ship Blessings at the Altars. This won't pay for itself very soon while you're sacrificing only Salt and Olives, is arguable for Fish (if you ram, which I don't), but could be nice once you're into Wheat and especially Metals. (But I can't ever seem to find much occasion for the Wind of Boreas.)

Never pack your ship totally full. You can't pick up more flotsam from the sea battles you win than will fit in your hold. And you don't get to jettison the less valuable to make room for the more valuable!
