Can't go back to screen I need to be in.

I did not have emough money to purchase an item. I hit the back button at the bottom of the screen but the message still came up that it would be best to buy a new tool.

Is this a glitch in the program or am I not doing something right? When I go to the main menu,
it just takes me to the quit screen.

Can anyone help me through this and tell me what I am doing wrong?
