Thank you, Thank You, Farm Frenzy Viking Heroes
by patnsky on Sep 18, 11 7:55 PM
Thank You to both the Developers and BF for this wonderful new format for FFVH. I love the FF series, some more than others, so I had to try this latest game. What a pleasant surprise. All of the previous versions are mostly the original game with just new animals, locations, etc. But FF Viking Heroes is a total new format. The map is gone. Also you can play either the Standard game or the Adventure game. Such a nice choice from before, when we could not play the Adventure until we had completed all the Standard levels.
I know some have complained about the Viking riding his bike between levels. Frankly I would not matter if he is there or not, it would still take the same amount of time to load each new scene or level.
I always keep the music turned either way down or off, so cannot speak about that, but love everything else. There are a lot of enemies yes. But whenever you capture one, you get a helmet also. On some levels you can use them to upgrade your boars and or the sheep. When they are upgraded, the enemies ignore them.
In all, I think this new format for FFVH is so much fun.
If you liked FF games in the past, I think you will like this one even better.
Truly 5 thumbs up
Pat
l totally agree on this.

I love, love, love the FF series, have bought each and every one and didn't quit playing until I achieved gold on every level. That said, unless I get desperate for a game, I won't be buying this one. I used up 17 minutes of the demo....but spent less than 5 minutes actually playing the game. The rest of the time was spent watching the guy on the bike slowly ride across my screen.
Yep, this echoes my experience. In fact, I've given up playing after just 30 minutes of my demo because I got so frustrated that I only spent about a third of that time actually playing the game.
Really, really, really dislike the horrendously long loading screens. I'm running a very powerful 'gaming' computer that copes just fine with anything I throw at it but for some reason I'm expected to just sit here waiting for a stupid little man to fly across the screen in between every single level and even the menus... Frustrating as hell! Especially when there is just no need... frankly, I'm finding the FF series to look more and more gimicky as time goes on. Here's an idea... pare down the graphics a tad and then at least we can play the game without sitting around bored for half the time stuck in loading screens. (I have to wonder if perhaps the loading screen itself is the problem - if it didn't have to play that silly animation, perhaps it would load quicker? Just an idea...)
Suffice to say, I do love the FF series, and so I of course enjoyed the gameplay, story and graphics. Additionally I'm pleased to see some intriguing new additions and twists to the FF model, but I just will not buy this game on principle.
Sorry Devs! Sort out the loading screens and you'd have yourself an instant repeat customer. But like so many others on here it's a deal-breaker for me, so I'm not parting with my cash on this one.

Not very happy about this game.
Started with the standard mode but that was so slow (for no apparent reason, got all the right requirements, tried every trick in the help section) I stopped. Then started the adventure game because that seemed to go better, and it was for a while but then that got slower and slower too. By the time I got to the ice & fire episodes it was like watching paint dry. But In Asgard it speeded up again so I finished the adventure mode and started playing standard mode again. I'm at level 28 now and in the last 15 minutes the game crashed 5 times (and I've got Norton, nót Mcafee).
On top of all that some of the level goals are ridiculously easy. Not what I'm used to at all with the other FF Games (and I've played them all).
I really, really want to like this game (graphics are great) but you're not making this easy!
A very frenzied fishy

I am a big fan of the FF games. I was eager to try this new one, but it took a lot to get used to, the items to collect seems to be much smaller, and very hard to click on, especially the spears, and its very annoying and it was very difficult to catch things falling from the sky. I do like the new format though, and the new adventure part instead of endless mode, it is much better, more challenging. I do like most of the changes, but really does anyone care about the story. I just want to get to the next level. I ended up with gold on each level, so now what do I do, when is the next FF coming out, these and the 'build a lot' series are my favourite games.

Let me add my voice as someone else that has played all the FF games. I played through standard mode and am currently finishing the last world in adventure mode. (Much of this is echoing what people said above, but oh well!)
Pros:
-I like the new "armor" on the animals. It adds a new way to earn money and on some levels you can breathe easier without having to worry about the bad guys killing all your animals.
-They have done away with the zillion-ingredient items like the cake in past FFs (I think the max ingredients for any particular item is three) and there are no overly complicated items like Christmas trees or rocket ships. Those always drove me crazy...
-Once it loads (!), the game is smooth and responsive.
Cons:
-The slow load for EVERY screen is annoying. I have a fast computer but the few seconds are still annoying.
-The replay screen is unnecessarily clunky, being off the main screen and having to scroll down to the level you want to play. I liked the maps better, but just being able to easily replay the level you just finished from the ending screen would be a good addition (since that's usually what I want to do).
-I feel like they shrunk the "clickable" area for items and caged bad guys. I found myself having to click over and over on some items before they would finally get picked up. It occasionally screwed up a level with touchy timing.
-Speaking of which, there were way fewer levels with touchy timing. I got gold on first try for 90% of the levels, and on the second try for basically all the ones I missed the first time. Past games had more difficult gold times-- now they are weirdly generous. In fact, I just finished a level in 2:36 that was 9:50 for gold! I have finished in less than half the gold time on about half the levels, which gives the game less replay value.
-Standard mode has upgrades like traditional FF. I don't like the way you "earn" upgrades in adventure mode--I'd rather decide for myself when to upgrade and be able to replay to earn stars for new upgrades. But this is the least of my complaints!
Overall, I enjoyed it, was glad they have simplified many of the items, but hope they fix the awkward new interface and the gold times on the next game. If you like FF it is worth buying.
