I give up. I left to come back here and I had done most of the stones on the rocks and now all my lines are gone. Why do they not save.WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO START OVER. I have done everthing I can to get the lights back on and they just won't work. That is 2 spots that I have to do over. Not fair

I was BEYOND frustrated with this, but I've gotten through it.
1. At the beginning, long before you get to the generator or anything like that, be sure you pick up the light bulb, the plank, and the bolt cutters in the first two scenes (the only two available without opening hidden scenes).
2. THE PLANK: Look at the toucan on the sign. Look to the right of that and you'll see a post. The plank goes to the right of that post over the gap. This will open another hidden area where you will get the gas can.
3. THE BOLT CUTTERS: Use them on the lock on the right-hand train car. This opens the generator puzzle.
4. THE LIGHT BULB: Use the light bulb in the generator puzzle.
5. THE GAS CAN: Use it in the funnel to get your fuel tank half-full.
NOTE: The red knobs, to me, don't do anything except create a little steam and then shut themselves off. I turned both, for what it's worth, but I don't really think they did anything.
6. THE BARS: This is going to take trial-and-error. What I CAN share is that lights only light when opposite ends of the bar are on a BLUE and a GOLD - in other words, if you connect a bar between a gold and a gold or a blue and a blue, nothing will light up. Any bar that connects a blue and a gold will light the associated bulbs on the top of the puzzle. The key is to ensure all bars are covered following the blue/gold rule.
7. THE OARS: Go back to where you got the gas can and put the oars on the boat - this opens another previously hidden scene.
8. STAR PUZZLE: I suggest you collect all the gems FIRST - just drop them in the inventory space below the puzzle screen. The map on lower right will give you an idea of which go where, which will leave you with four that you'll have to guess it through size and shape. Worst case, you can click "hint" and it will spit out the gems you have WRONG. After you've placed the gems, a rope will drop and gems will light up and play a note in an order that you have to repeat to draw the outline of the star. The first sequence is only three gems/notes, and it draws two segments of the outside of the star. Pull the rope again, and you'll get the next sequence (only harder) and it will draw two more segments when you successfully complete it. Continue until it's drawn and you can retrieve the scroll.
NOTE to those of you who are frustrated by quitting/restarting. Don't do that!! Use your map option to toggle between different scenes. The bars will appear when you hit the green button!

If you go to watch the video you can pause it where the bars are on the generator. There are 10 bars, note which lengths go on first and where they are placed. Work your way to top and doors open and you get the oars

Like cesse says you should have got new map right after here try this again:
Grab the piece of journal that is on the left edge of the scene.
Lower left side, grab the hammer, and place it on the plank that is on the side of the yellow train car. The plank will go into inventory, go to the waterfall.
Once you find the bolt cutters in the waterfall, place the bolt cutters over the chain on the door and a new location will appear that contains a puzzle.

Either there is a bug in the puzzle or I'm missing something obvious, which is it?
The solve button will only solve one step at a time. If you hit it again, it will solve another piece.

I know I cheated but it was getting late and I wanted to get the puzzle done before going to bed.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

Hi Rosebud- the plank does not go in the train. You use it to cross the ravine on the next page, i think.

Count me in as stuck. I thought the plank was a problem but I think maybe people are not putting it in the right place because they are trying to span the large waterfall. You want to put the plank onto the land at about the six o'clock position or thereabouts, if viewing the screen as a clock face. You are only going from the near foreground almost straight back. You are not trying to span the waterfall that occupies the left half, approximately, of the screen. Maybe that will help. I, too, kept my eye on the large waterfall when all I had to do was span the ditch in front of me.
Now I am stuck with the darn lights. I can get all but one on, too, but the answer does not seem to be logical. If I get a certain number of lights to glow, move the wires or whatever they are, to another position and back, I don't necessarily end up with the same number of lights glowing as I had previously even though the wires are back in the same position. Either that or I am going crazy, which right about now is a definite possibility, Maybe I will hit the New Years Eve bubbly instead of worrying about puzzles. I am about to tear my hair out! If someone figures it out, please take pity on the rest of us.

I'll give you 2 tips ... the left end of the longest bar goes on the 3rd pole. the shortest bar goes on the far right. Remember, the bars should "spark" when attached. If not, they are not in the correct positions. Good Luck.
