Re:Azada ™: Ancient Magic Released for Mac at Big Fish Games

I have a question... exactly the same thing has been happening to me (I am very disappointed, like we all are, that we have been sold a defective game), and I received the free games voucher, and was told they were working on fixing the problem. I was wondering though, that when a fixed version for mac users is released, will we have to pay again?? I am hoping that is not what the voucher is for! Maybe I am being too cynical...

Usually when an updated version of a game is introduced, you are able to download the new version from your online list of purchased games without additional charge. I can't imagine it will be different for Azada Ancient Magic with so many people in the same disappointing boat.

The negative experience is really unfortunate. I have also had the same problem in this game that I can't get past, and I am going to be very happy when a fixed version is available.
But I have to say that I have been so impressed by the customer service level of all the folks at BFG... any time I've written to report a problem, they are prompt, thorough (and honest!), and don't hide behind anonymous "Customer Service" sign-offs. They actually have names. And they respond to responses! (THIS is a dead-give-away that they are Real Humans on the other end!!! wierd!!)

I'm keeping myself occupied with a second pass at Dream Chronicles (3)... it is NOT a repeat of the first time through!!

Hope you can keep playin' and enjoying!

Yes... I was told we will just need to uninstall the old then re-install the game from our list of purchased games. When the fix is available, that is.

i think customer service rants must by far exceed any other class of rants on the web.

i sent the following to customer support:

based on the boards you have been getting plenty of complaints about the crashing problem for months now. i'd like a reasonable approximation of the time it will take to fix the problem, and i would also like an explanation of why you sold me and are still selling others games that you know contain bugs. i have bought several games from you in the past but would think twice in doing so in the future if this is a company that produces faulty games, then when informed their games are faulty continue to sell them with-out warning, and then make those of us who have already paid for the product wait for an unreasonable amount of time (months) for the fix. you've got a good game - plenty of interest - people are even willing to pay for it - don't screw the whole thing up with stupid details guys!

Problems & Customer Service

[Post New]by EklektikChick on May 31, 09 5:49 PM
So, I have had the same problem as everyone else has had regarding the Invisible Man book towards the end of the game. Before I had sent an email to customer service, I checked in the forums and was surprised to see that so many people have had the same problem with the game going almost 4 months. After reading everything I sent my own email to them:

I was having a little trouble with the game I purchased, Azada: Ancient Magic for the MAC with the Invisible Man Book towards the end of game. I have read the forums in case there was a mention of the problem I was having, turns out, EVERYONE who has a MAC has had the same problems with the Invisible Man Book causing the entire game to quit.

I also noticed that the threads go back to February, ARE YOU KIDDING? It's going to take over 4 months to fix the problem? That's incredible, it really is. you would think that with so many complaints you would do your best to fix the problem ASAP, guess not, huh? I can say that until this problem is fixed, I'm not going to buy games, since i don't want to pay the price & not be able to complete the game.

Sorry to hear that it is taking so very long to fix the problem.

I doubt that will cause a stir, but with the problem going on 4 months, with nothing being done, its just insane.

I don't know if this has already been posted, but if you skip over the Invisible Man book, you can play the remaining two books. You still can't play the IM book or finish the game, unfortunately.

I don't see how this can be a Quicktime problem if it's only happening with one book.

Just installed QT 7.6.2 that was released today and decided to launch the game, guess who popped up - the Invisible Man! Off to finish the game, I'll report back.

Update: Good news. I just finished the Invisible Man book. Now for the rest. FYI - Playing on a MBP, 10.5.7.

I was able to complete the rest of the game (Invisible Man on) after today's Quicktime update (playing under 10.4.11). There wasn't a great number of books to complete to get to the end, but I was definitely glad to be able to finish the game.

There's a bug in 'The Detective' that won't let me move forward after I successfully solved the character replacement puzzle. I wrote tech support (or posted a message in another forum - I've forgotten) and no-one's offered any suggestions.

Is there a work-around?

FreddieR wrote:Not knowing about so many previous problems, I eagerly bought and played Ancient Magic until nearly finished, when it quit and wouldn't restart. Although I did receive a coupon as most people did, this was the reason given to me for the problem: "It seems a few of our users have had this issue. We rigorously test our games for our release but it looks like the Mac version of Azada: Ancient Magic escaped with a few kinks."

After reading what appear to be more technical responses that others have already received, this seems to be rather insulting, if others were as into this game as I was. Besides, I was crushed to know there was no remedy. I can only hope that 1) Big Fish actually does fix what's wrong (so we all can fully enjoy what I think is the best game series since Myst), and 2) that they're more rigorous in the future.

In the meantime, if a Mac user reads this board before purchasing Ancient Magic, be aware that you may be unable to finish the game.

So I noticed the Azada games are on the top games list again for Mac. I remember not being able to finish either game because of technical issues. But since the game is so popular again, does this mean that the problem has been fixed? If anyone has a non-bugged version of the game, I'd like to know how you did it!
