Another Reason to BFG!!!

[Post New]by juliamadeane on Oct 27, 08 10:13 AM
Did you notice that it was just under an hour from Erie acknowledging that the problem was being worked on and having possible solutions available. It takes a week and then "some time between 8 am and 5 pm" to get the wavy lines off my cable reception!! Another reason BFG is better than TV!!!

materri1, if you haven't already done so, contact Tech Support. Attach your dxdiag file and explain the steps you've done to fix the problem. Watch for other posts from the bfgHosts that might help as well. Good Luck

Should I uninstall this game and re install it? I was # 1 in line for tech support and it was cancelled.

If you are using AVAST virus scan, it will detect a virus. This is a false virus detection. I have had these issue in the past with AVAST, and it does not matter if you update the definitions or not with AVAST.

I uninstalled AVAST and went to my provider site, they offered free Mcafee virus program, so I am now using that. With no virus detected.

However, I am getting the WIC problem which I understand has been resolved.

Thank you for the info. I use AVAST so this might explain it.

I have tried to download the Microsoft WIC component, I get an error message which says:

"newer version of WIC already installed" so it will not install the program at all. And I still keep getting the error message. I have tried looking in add/remove programs for it but cannot find it. I am wondering if it comes bundled with the Direct X update that it performed when installing casebook.

Any suggestions, I am still waiting for help in live support. after an hour I am number 19.......

I downloaded this game this morning about 7am, and it is now 1pm, I not sure if it is really worth the effort. Although it is nice to be able to meet and chat with so many noble gamers, so I guess I will keep trying for now.

I just got done with tech support. They said that the people who are getting the WIC message are still having issues after they try everything they recommend. The said if unistalling and reinstalling does not work, then we will have to wait until they fix the game. They had no time for how long it would take to fix it. So until then, I just have to wait and get excited to try this game I have heard is great!!!

I would love to try this game, but all I have available to me is dial-up. I wonder how long it would take to download? Hopefully they get the bugs worked out before 10/31/08. Maybe with dial-up if I start downloading on 10/29/08 it would be done in time to try it before 10/31/08 comes. May ISP always seems to disconnect itself after about 12 hours, so I don't know about this one, but it sounds great

I have purchased several games from here, and love them, I am a HUGE fan of BFG!

However, for the first time, I'm having a problem - I got the Trojan warning, and I cannot seem to get the game running (when I try to click on the game to play, my computer ignores me!)

Ok heres what happened with me after 3 hrs of waiting then help from the tech support. I sent him a DxDiag log and he found NOTHING wrong. Said I should be able to play this. They will keep working on a solution for this problem and will email me an update. Sorry no good news. But if anyone else was getting that same error message about the WIC thats the answer for now.

I spoke with tech on the live chat, they told me that they have to get a new build from the developer. That will fix the WIC problem.

As far as a virus infecting this game, there is none. if you are getting a virus, it is a false reading, especially if you are using AVG or AVAST anti-virus. I have had many of these kinds of problems with both.

I got rid of AVAST and went with Mcafee, and now everything is fine, except the problem with the WIC file. Check with your internet provider, Mcafee may be free as part of their security program. It is with mine.

When I download the WIC file I get this error message: "a newer update has already been installed". And it still did not work. My suspicions on this, and this is purely my speculation, that the WIC file may have been installed when the game updated the Direct X files. That is the only thing I can figure out at this point.

Same here. I have Service Pack 3 intstalled and the support page where you download the WIC recommended by Big Fish on the proceeding page of this topic, says it's for Service Pack 2 users. So no, this does not fix the problem. I too have a tech support ticket in. Sounds like this is pretty broken.
