Unable to Run on XP or Vista

[Post New]by msroslyn on Aug 28, 08 8:07 AM
I am having problems getting the game to run on my XP and Vista. It downloads fine but when I try to play it I get an error message saying something about the game is unable to open and then the game completely shuts downs. Lately I have been having this problem with a lot of my BFG games. Is anyone else having any problems?

Off and on Ms. Roslyn - not with FF2 however. You could try emailing Tech Support - if nothing else, you'll get a speedy answer!

I think I've received the message your talking about on 2 or 3 games overall - it's frustrating!

I had huge problems with this too . Every 5 minutes an error message appears and the game crashes I have uninstalled and re-installed the game again but it hasn't cleared the problem - it appears that the game is good though

I am having the same problem...i am getting error code 13...it talks about something about my sound. This is a brand new computer so i dont know if it has to do with Vista or what. So i updated my sound and video card drivers and uninstalled the game, restarted my comp and reinstalled the game again. I am still getting the same thing. So then i email tech support and this is what their response was.......Our department is taking a quick break deciding to swim downstream to enjoy warmer waters this Labor Day Weekend. We received your message and once we return we’ll work night and day to ensure you’ll receive a response as quickly as possible. As you know, fish never sleep.

When the heck are they coming back to work?!?!? I want their job!

I'm running Vista on a laptop and played all the levels without any problems, so I don't think it's a problem with Vista.

The only advice I have is to check and make sure your video drivers are updated and make sure all the items that run in the background are turned off, with the exception of your virus software.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

To All who responded to my cry for help, THANK YOU! Its nice to know that I am not the only one having this problem. I am going to double check my sound and video drivers to make sure that they are up to date. Hopefully when Big Fish returns from their holiday they will be able to help. Thanks to you all. Have a safe holiday!!!!!

This must have something to do with a Windows update. I have had the same problem but fixed it with this:

DEP: (Data Execution Prevention)
If you are receiving the DRM activator error message do the following to correct the issue.
1 - Left click on Start
2.- Right click on Computer
3 - Left click on Properties 4 - Left click on Advanced System Settings
5 - Under Performance click on Settings
6 - Left click on Data Performance Settings
7 - Click on TURN ON DEP FOR ESSENTIAL WINDOWS PROGRAMS AND SETTINGS ONLY.
8 - Click on Apply and then OK.

UAC: (User Account Control)
Open up Control Panel, and type in user account into the search box. You'll see the link for "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off". Click it. Uncheck the box, and reboot your computer.

I believe it is in the game making it's self that the problem exists. I purchased the game a few months ago (from another site) downloaded it to play 1 hour free. Then decided to buy it. When I play the game about half way through it, it shuts my monitor down,.(I get the black screen of death.) which means it's a graghic issue, but not on my part I have installed all new drivers, for video and sound,as well as new chipset drivers. My OS is XPPro. I defrag on a regular basis, run a clean-up on a regular basis. The point is if I had known of the problem, that only seems to be past the one hour mark of game play trial. I would have never bought the game till they fixed the issue with the game. I sent the company a png of the error code I got which lay behind the main screen of the game. As of yet they have not contacted me with a reply, or a way to fix the problem. I love the game thought it was great ! Too bad it won't play on my machine.

I have a laptop about 3 yrs old and I think everything is updated and I've played for at least 3 hours and have had no problem at all. I hope you guys can get answers because I'm really enjoying the game.

Re:Unable to Run on XP or Vista-drm activator error message

[Post New]by katsgg on May 14, 09 12:38 AM
Thank you for your post on how to fix the drmactivator error problem!! I think you are right about it being related to an automatically downloaded and installed Windows update as I had absolutely NO problems with BigFish games prior to that. After that download I started getting this error and could not run a single one of my BigFish games. I followed your advice and after rebooting my computer I am once again able to play all of my games. Of course, my Wild Tribe and My Tribe and other games that continue playing even when you are away from your computer came back up with a whole lot of deal villagers so that I now have to start over but all in all that's OK because at least I can once again access and play the games!!!

FYI, My computer is running the VISTA O/S.

I would suggest anyone getting this error message try the 2 step fix by QuickStorm. It is detailed step by step and very easy to follow. I had tried all the updating of drivers and such recommended by others to no avail. The 2 simple steps outlined by QuickStorm took care of the problem in just a few minutes!!!

Thanks again QuickStorm, I was beginning to despair over ever being able to play those games again!
