Access Violation - Screen Resolution

Does anyone know what resolution this game runs in? I keep getting Access Violation errors, have tried all the tips in the tech support area (reboot/uninstall/update DirectX/disable antivirus/tried to update video drivers but no new ones (that work) have come out for this ancient computer of mine.)

I was thinking maybe just maybe if I set my computer to a different screen resolution it might work, but the ones I've tried haven't and I'm using an LCD monitor which can complicate things.

Sometimes when I get the error and the game exits, my monitor does a "video mode not supported" box, which is why I think the problem might be a resolution thing.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows. Fortunately I only paid 99 cents for the game so it's not a total loss if I can't get it to work. (The error occurs when I click an object, usually the first one I can click fine but the next one, boom, error.)

I didn't manage to solve the problem on my main computer, but I installed the game on my netbook and it works, go figure. I guess when a $200 netbook outperforms the PC, it's really time to replace this old piece of junk.
