Recurring Error Message with MTE

[Post New]by duramater on Aug 6, 09 8:00 AM
I am having the same error message occur that that I had right after the fire in July. When I start up the program, I get a message telling me to make sure that I have the most current version, then it goes into a loop with other messages until I start task manager to get out. For a few weeks, MTE ran great for me, but has given the above error messages for my husband under his user ID in Vista since the fire. When I tried to fix it (uninstall, erase hidden files, clean the registry, reboot, reinstall -- what I did successfully in the past), it has been completely unsuccessful. Now neither of us can play due to the error messages and the loop.

MTE is my favorite game and what I turn to before and after a long 12-hour shift. I must admit to some frustration that it hasn't been working properly since the fire. It ran without any problems, concerns, or interventions on my part prior to that.

Any thoughts or suggestions on your part would be appreciated.

I have had the same problem since about April this year on my laptop (runs Vista). I deleted everything according to some of the other threads about this issue. I have MTE on my work computer (runs xp) and I have had no problems playing it on that computer. I copied my player files from the work computer, reinstalled MTE on the laptop, put the player files in the reinstalled version and I am able to play it on my laptop now... BUT only if I open the game using the Big Fish Play my games shortcut. If I use the MTE shortcut I get the error messages. Not sure why this occurs, but I don't care. I was having big time MTE withdrawal - hence putting it on my work computer. Not sure if this will work for you, but it's worth a try. This is the best mahjong game I have ever tried and I have tried several.

Thanks for your suggestion. What is the Big Fish Play My Game shortcut and where do I get it/how do I use it? I agree about MTE. I love the game, miss it -- don't enjoy other mahjong solitaire games at all. Really appreciate your help.

There should be an icon on your desktop for the game as all games, when I load them into the BF games manager, they also have a shortcut on the desktop. Hope this helps.

I, too, don't know what is up with this game. Have not been able to play on the desktop since April May, yet can play on laptop. Both run Vista and both are new so don't know what's up with that. Would think they would get a fix for it though because this is a problem for alot of fishies and there are alot who miss playing it.

I'm getting this same message. I've played on the same computer since May without any problems until this past month. Though it doesn't matter which shortcut I take, it just doesn't work. I'm also missing me some Mahjong!

Every time I'm supposed to advance to the Bronze Ox level I get the error message and a loop. I uninstalled it and installed it once again--still didn't work. I've got a mac with OS 10.4..

Ok - for all you people having this prob theres something you need to check - since iv been away iv been doing abit of homework on this game & have discovered a couple of developments

The first thing - does yr game do this at exactly the same point everytime? Meaning you cant get past 1 certain point in the game

Via another Mte forum a players game was crashing etc because of the lack of game badges - (these are the ranking badges yr playing to move to the next animal)

There should be 112 badges in the badges folder in yr game - however - when you download the game they are not all always there

If the badges yr upto isnt there then the game cant read them as an object is missing - you will probably get a handling error message or an object expected error msg if this is the case

To check the Badges folder - these instructions are for Xp - if you have Vista or Mac - pm me & i will send you the link on how to find the games programme folders for the game - if you already know how to do this then go to the Mahjong Towers Eternity Programme folder

Right clik the Mte Game Icon (the 1 you use to open yr game)
Clik Properties
Clik Find Target

Look for the Assets folder & double clik on it to open it -

you will see the Badges folder - double clik to open it

There should be -

12 Bronze = 1 for each animal
12 Diamond
12 Emerald
12 Fire
12 Gold
12 Lightening
12 Ruby
12 Silver
12 Wind
1 Newbie
1 Rarified

If you dont have all of these badges in the folder & you are having problems opening yr game - post back & i'll send you the link to get them so you can transfer them into yr game

Cont next post....

If you have all of the badges & you are having problems opening yr game & the problem happens at the same point in the game all the time

Then the problem is more than likely 1 of 2 problems -

Yr 'players' file is around 500kbs (this is the max kbs a single player in any game can play upto until the fix is used to pull the kbs back on the 'players' & 'times' files in yr game) therefore re allowing access into the game to play it up again - your position in the game dosnt alter when the fix is done - you pick up exactly where you left off -

If the 'players' file isnt the prob then it could very well be that the 'times' file has stopped working - check the kbs on the 'times' file & write it down & keep it handy -

to fix the times file - delete it - the game will recreate a new 1 when you open the game - the reason for writing down the kbs of the times file is once it gets up to the previous amount of kbs again - it could do exactly the same thing so you need the number to check against the file - it could be that the new files kbs moves past the non working file kbs - if this is the case you shouldnt have anymore probs with it unless it stops working at some other point further on - in which case you would again write down the kbs & delete the file - again - deleting the 'times' file has no bearing on yr position in the game - iv recently fixed another players non access into the game by testing & doing this - needless to say she is 1 very happy player as she is a big player of Mte & thort her player was doomed

To find both of the 'players' & 'times' files - again these instructions are for Xp users - pm me for the link for Vista & Mac -

Right clik Mte game icon (the 1 you use to open the game)
Clik Properties
Clik Find Target

You will see a Player folder - double clik to open it

Look at the kbs on the 'players' file - if they are around 500kb you need the fix

If theyr not around 500 - look at the kbs on the 'times' file & write it down then delete the file

Exit all windows & open yr game

Any probs beyond these solutions - post back

If etha of these solutions work for you then please post back also so others know what they may need to do if this happens to them

Thanks - Fi

I have had a problem with this error off and on. I uninstall and reinstall and it usually works for a while, but I need a new identity each time so basically I have to start over. Is there anyway to use the previous identity?
