If you are having problems getting the game to work correctly, we highly recommend going to our Help pages. Using our Help pages is always the quickest way to get technical problems resolved. Here are a few suggested articles that have helped many people correct these types of problems in the past:

The demo worked fine, of course, then got a black screen during a HOS after I bought the game. It's when I go through the portal and use the ladder to get to the top floor of the house. I'm able to open the HOS but it goes dark once I click on the pitchfork. I can still hear everything and even clicked on some more items while clicking around randomly in the dark. I had to C-A-D to close the game. I did the uninstall/reinstall and started a new game with a new profile to see if I could play with no problems, but I got the same black screen at the same HOS again, so the problem is the game and not my computer. I'm playing on a new Lenovo PC with Windows 8.1.

Well it turns out that I was able fix this glitch myself since customer service just offered a free game coupon instead of giving helpful advice from a live person. All I got from them was the standard automated reply saying nothing useful, so I went looking elsewhere on the internet for help. I was able to see the blackened HOS I was stuck in by increasing the brightness on my monitor. Later on in the game, my screen was flickering badly and looked to be freezing up. I then found a helpful bit of info that said to run the game in compatibility mode of a previous version. Since I'm now using Windows 8.1, I changed the executable file to run the game in Windows XP and it's now working perfectly. If the customer service at BF would suggest this simple workaround as an additional attempt to fix issues instead of always just saying to update video cards, Shockwave, Flash Player, etc., then maybe customers wouldn't feel so down about the often times lack of help offered by them.
