Stuck in Boiler/Machine room

I need help with the machine room, work room, whatever it is called. I have collected everything and the three tools I had disappeared?? I only have one tool hanging in the closet and it looks like the arm to a robot. In my inventory I have two items that look like valves and some other diamond shaped item. The door at the bottom of the closet where you are to hang the tools is not opening. I have my steam going. Help Please.

Hang the "valves" in the closet with the other one, the bottom of the closet will open, push the button, it opens a panel beside the closet. Put the diamond thing (its a spring) on the left side of the puzzle that comes up from behind the panel. The answer to the puzzle is over the door you went thru. Finish the puzzle, take the spring and put it in the robot. Push the 2 red buttons over by the right door. The robot will open the door and you leave. It's that simple, lol. If I am wrong on something, let me know and I will see if I can find the right answer.

Hooray it worked!! I tried hanging those "valves" before. Maybe not putting them in the right order. Thanks again for your help.

I too am stuck in the Boiler/Machine room. I finally gave up and consulted the Pahelika Strategy Guide. There is supposed to be a heavy rope hanging from the nail in the wall to attach to the pulley, etc. I see what appears to be a nail on the far left wall. However, there is no rope hanging there. Am I looking in the wrong place? Help!
