I think you have quite a bit to do before being ready to go into the white pass and fighting those wolves! The white pass is for very late in the game and there are numerous areas you haven't been yet. You should go to Ravenwood first and get started on the beast/Herbert quest. This takes many steps, some of which on different continents. Ravenwood is in the south of the main continent - walk south from where you got off your canoe with Rye. Also go into the Shadow Woods there - you need to do this for the Herbert/beast quest AND you will get a stick of dynamite, very important.
When you're done in Ravenwood, go back north and through Green Weed Plains until you're back near Thais. Then go east from Thais into the Greystone Pass, which you now can do with your dynamite. There are three huge new areas leading off from there, and two new cities - Seri and Bogwood.
Just FYI, the love letter isn't in Seri. It is a quest that's also very late in the game. You will need it for grandma Nora once you've spoken to her in the underworld, she will tell you where it is. But you're not nearly there yet.
Just forget about those awful wolves for now!
