I thought this was a GREAT game. I liked the fact that it was entertaining without being as macabre as many of the games.

Did not hold attention I played both""Empress of the Deep" games in the middle of this one !!!!,,(EOD games were great)
I guess I was bored... mini games were boring I kept skipping them because I was fed up with trial and error !!!
Graphics superb and interesting Hogs...

at first, i liked this game, but it began to get really tedious. I feel it was far too long- it could have been more steamlined. several scenes in each chapter, lots of things too do , and lots of running about. the HOG scenes were plentiful and rather challenging. that's not a bad thing, but when you combine it with a fuzzy incoherent storyline that never quite comes together and repeats of tasks, it just becomes long, boring and long. i found myself using the hint button constantly just to get through it faster.

also, my cursor was really jumpy and that was irritating.

i like games with achievements, which this had. so that was good. :p

This is a "MUST HAVE GAME!" It involves the player from beginning to end. The story line was spooky, creepy, and scary at times -- all the right elements for an intriguing experience! Great graphis; beautiful music; excellent strategy guide (only used it twice). This was my first experience with Elephant Games and I was very impressed!

(Minor story spoilers)

The storyline of this game hit on several things I like: Celtic mythology, alternate/mirror worlds, big corporation experimentation gone wrong, Lovecraftian sense of otherworldly doom. The artwork was good, especially at the end when you return to town. I thought the hidden object scene graphics were even nicer than the location graphics, and the objects were hidden in a good way (tricky, not frustrating).

The music was okay. There was very little actual music, mostly atmospheric sound effects. It got a little repetitive at parts, but only slightly annoying.

The animations were really good, especially the water animations. The cut scenes were very high quality--similar to what you'd see in mainstream games from 10 years ago.

The puzzles were of above average difficulty and lots of fun to do. The adventure part of the game, i.e. using inventory items required more frequent suspension of disbelief than usual. E.g. at one point there's a key taped to something and you have to find a knife to cut it out. It's tape! Why can't I rip it off? You also kind of get shuttled from one location to another in somewhat nonsensical manners. Don't think too hard about it, I guess.

But I liked the gameplay so much that these shortcomings were insignificant in comparison. Overall I really liked it!

I am not sure why. I just could not focus on this game. I would get bored with it very quickly. So, on the plus side, this game lasted a while for me because I kept leaving it and coming back a week later to work some more on it. It was challenging enough, but the word I really want to use is "tedious".

I just finished this game and enjoyed it very much. I worked on it a little each day because that's just the way I play games and it lasted me a 1 1/2 weeks. The puzzles were a little challenging but doable (I think i skipped two). The story line was a little strange but it was different. Overall I liked this game very much and would recommend it to others.

Really enjoyed this game. Even if I had to reboot a few times to get it to run smooth. I have 4 Gig of RAM and it still sucked up the memory. But a few reboots were worth the playing value and time.

I liked the theme, especially the Celtic portions. Even saw a few thistles, triskele, and of course, the Horned God. Graphics were rather beautiful and/or mucky, depending on the situation. The bog scenes were so good - it "felt" sticky and stinky. HOGs were clear and I did not need a magnifying glass to see almost all of the items. Mini-games were superb! I really enjoyed thinking and puzzling out the answers. Finally mini-games worthy of adults. I turned down the volume so what music there was, I ignored. Some of the scenes were a bit absurd but it wasn't such a big thing that it destroyed the overall quality of the game.

And my usual biggest complaint - abrupt end with no after story - was certainly not an issue here. I loved the fight climax and the nice tableau that followed. Very nice ending that resolved the game and didn't leave me hanging.

This has been one of my favorite games played here on BF. I will keep my eyes open for more in this series or from Elephant Games. Thanks, BF.

Did anyone else find that even after choosing the advanced setting they still had all the sparkles, hints and skips?

This is one that I went back and forth between the game and the walkthrough. I had a hard time figuring out where the story was going. Anyway, the game was very long for me and somewhat frustrating because of the storyline. Also, I had to double-click the file location icon on my hard drive to open the game. The graphics were beautiful, the music earie, the plot weird. I was able to perform the mini games and hidden object scenes. It took me two days on this one. Normally, I start a game and don't stop until I am finished.

Like not Love

[Post New]by technocratee on Nov 24, 11 3:43 AM
I liked the game, not love it. The story wasn't quite captivating enough although it could have been, there's a cultural aspect which I like.
I think I got my money's worth though. It's quite long, many investigations, many long chapters, Hidden Object Scenes were nice and clean, hints were good and not too long to recharge.
Some technical issues, was slow and some mini games crashed on me: the marbles at the lion head at some point just wouldn't move, and the interesting one where you had to make animals reach their image, some squares just wouldn't accept anything.

This game is enjoyable, IF you ignore its obvious faults - the fact a fertility god (Cernunnos) is being portrayed as a demon, & the fact that it is more modern day sci-fi, than Celtic folklore

In saying that, the game is visually engaging, with lovely detailed graphics, music, & sound effects. The puzzles range from some old familiar types, to some refreshingly new challenges. The story is quite predictable really, BUT the journey through the story is a lot of fun, if you ignore the game faults, or don't have any knowledge of Celtic folklore

LOVED this game! Great storyline, good graphics, lots of good puzzles, and having to remember where you use the various items you get. Music was so-so, but not too annoying. Thoroughly enjoyed this game-- if you like having to use a lot of common sense, this is your game! HOGS were great. Only a few objects difficult to see (hidden very well). Highly recommend!

I liked the game.

I am a recent convert to HOGs as I am not particularly fond of them. So for me, this game contained too many HOG puzzles. Yes I suppose if you love HOG puzzles, it is great but they make me so tired. I ended up quitting on the HOGs and coming back fresh after a good nights sleep.

I also thought the Hint button took too long to refill. I am a lazy game player and if I can't find something right away, I want a hint. Although the Hint button did recharge quickly, it wasn't quick enough for me.

Other than that, I found the story line fun and the graphics well done. I especially enjoyed the opening of the game, with the demon and his horn. I think the game programmer should make that their logo. Well done!

LOVED this game! Much more challenging then some of the others I've played lately. Many of the puzzles were real brain bogglers. Graphics were great. Story interesting. Loved how it took you up, down, all around, & in and out of time. Wish it could have gone on longer I was having so much fun.

I had forgotten until I began this demo that I had demo'd it before, and I see why I didn't finish it the first time. In spite of the slightly spooky graphics (I love spooky), it didn't grab me. It also annoyed me early on. A frozen person is holding a key but it is partly frozen to them, although some of it is exposed completely. I can't use my lighter to melt the ice enough to free the key?

I did like the idea of having to use something to get hidden objects in a HOS out from underwater.

Didn't get the plotline at all, didn't know what I was aiming for at all. No one to talk to in the first scene (dead guy tells no tales), granted something might be in the cut scene; I admit I skip cut scenes in a demo so as not to waste actual gameplay time; some cut scenes are extremely long and don't offer any helpful information. I admit when it comes to cut scenes and journals I am too impatient, but I just want to play!

Somehow this game has left me feeling cold after two tries at the demo. Same thing happened when I demo'd that Flying Dutchman game. Just didn't feel a thing. It's a shame, because $2.99 for the Catch of the Week is a good deal. If you enjoyed playing the demo, then you've got a good thing here!

Had read a lot of interesting reviews on this game but put it on the backburner. When It came as the catch of the week, I decided to demo it.
Why didn't I listen to everyone? This game is incredible!
I love Elephant games to begin with. The artwork is stunning. The puzzles are a little different than the norm. So many new twists to the regular which makes this game enjoyable. The hidden object scenes are tough and (to me) the mini games even tougher! Everything about this game is just 'one step beyond'!
I bought it and I just love it!

I played the CE version but as you get achievements here in the SE version, there was no other extras (just the usual wallpaper etc) and bonus play was just under the hour and the plot was tied up here (although you could guess where it might go in the bonus.)

This isn’t elephant’s first HOPA, I think that was MT: the void but this feels and plays like their first (the lost games I put in another category). Comparing it to their recent games what a difference! It doesn’t feel or plays like their other games.

There is no transporter map, graphics are a weird mix of grainy to OKish although there were a couple of nice scenes. There are also a lot of HOS and even more puzzles. Plot was OK you are off to try and find what happened to your ex, with of course twists to it. But don’t expect even templar’s quality of cutscene. The difference between this game and the hallowed legends templar is big but it shows how far elephant has come, especially in recent games.

Here there are only two modes of play which is changeable during the game but advanced does still have faint sparkles sometimes and has sparkles on the HOS. There is also black bar tips. You can hide the inventory bar but hint button is in middle with diary to the right and inventory to the left.

Hint button isn’t their usual mini guide just shows you in a scene and if it’s not in the scene just one back button won’t keep going back to show you where you should go. There is no voiceover just dialogue boxes.

It’s hard to describe but something you have to see for yourself why the quality isn’t here compared to their other games. Apart from graphics, plot isn’t really there and I feel they put in a lot of HOS and puzzles to pad the game out without being part of a game. Here I felt like I was picking up one thing in one scene to use it in next and the backtracking is huge here. I know all HOPAs are like that but the really good ones don’t make you feel like you are doing that.

24 HOS

At least it’s their usual never repeat, and no random click penalty on their all list types. Most were junk pile or very nearly, some weren’t. Some were quite good in clarity and sharpness but others were more grainy. Some tiny items but not many. Don’t think any were interactive.

to be continued

continued

34 PUZZLES

Quite a few were very easy so very quick to do. Others were all varied hardness and some hard ones. Most of them were really old school but a couple were new.

TIME
- It did take me a fair bit over 5 hrs and I did skip about 3 puzzles (as was bored and didn't want to do them)

If you are looking for a good enough game with length and a lot of HOS as well as puzzles and don’t expect a recent ‘elephant’ standard game then I do recommend it especially with a coupon or DD.

But if you are expecting their usual type of game – of amazing graphics and sharpness in HOS, not many HOS, transporter map, wow cutscenes then keep walking.
