I MUST AGREE BOMIE...FOR THOSE THAT BASED THEIR OPINIONS ON "JUST THE TRIAL" SHAME ON YOU FOR EVEN POSTING. TRY GOING THROUGH THE WHOLE DAM**D GAME DOING NOTHING BUT REFERING TO THE STRATEGY GUIDE ( IF YOU CAN CALL IT THAT.) I TAKE DIRE UMBRAGE IN THE FACT THAT I MUST GO TO JAY'S GOT GAMES TO FIND OUT HOW TO REMOTELY FIGURE OUT THE DARNED PUZZLES. ISN'T THAT PART OF THE REASON WE HOCK UP THE $13.99 IN THE FIRST PLACE??? AND BY THE WAY... THERE IS NO STORY PLOT PER SE...JUST A JUMBLE OF "WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON." I DO NOT EVER REMEMBER SLAMMING A GAME THIS BAD EXCEPT FOR SHADOW GROVE THAT I COULD NOT EVEN FINISH,

When "Fate's Carnival" came out it was exciting, and took along time. I looked extremely forward to the next installment. To my dismay, "Sacred Grove" Collector's Edition was a miserable disappointment. It took me only 3 days to finish the entire game, as "Fate's" took over 3 weeks for me to complete. I expected to tantalized a lot longer than 3 days for a puzzle I waited a year to come out. I have played every game since "Ravenhearst" and "Sacred Grove" falls way behind my expectations.

I just finished the game. And, like the latest installment of Dark Parables - this wasn't the worse game I've ever played but it is not worthy of MCF. Let's be honest, both of these series are now a shadow of their former selves. As I was playing this game, all I wanted to do was play the original game with it's frosty sense of humor and clever story. This game tried too hard (seriously, those puzzles - what were you thinking?) and failed. Again, not a bad game, but not a MCF as far as I'm concerned and this will most likely be my last. Which is a shame really as the first HOG I ever played was Ravenhearst and Return to Ravenhearst still remains my all time favorite, followed by Dire Grove. Over time, as technology improves, the games should change...but for the better and sadly, it did not in this case. Thanks for the memories Mystery Case Files!!

I understand your displeasure with this game and mostly agree with your ire, but all caps is too much. After all, you are mostly speaking to the fans, not the mods.

I too long for the days of Ravenhurst and Dire Grove and their wonderful puzzles and incredibly long and convoluted games. Unfortunately, so many people complained about how hard the puzzles and games were that they dumbed them down (and evidently farmed them out to E_L_E_P_H_, etc.). Now we have the newer and easier puzzles and the little fluffy companions (ok, not in this game) who need only tiny bits of game achievements to clothe or feed them.

I used to think we had only each other to blame (the posters), or BF, but then I realized that BF has all the info on our predilections - at least a far as our comments and survey questions go, and of course game purchases. BF could direct games anyway they chose. Of course, BF decided to go with what was most popular. So, gamers, if you like something, say so, and buy it, otherwise meet your future They gave us what they thought we wanted, based on the numbers.

But also, they are now focused on another market. Big Fish is now big time "Big Fish Casino", in case you haven't seen the ads. BF is looking for a whole different kind of fish now, so perhaps we should understand they have a new fishing ground. Good luck to you BF. Perhaps you could let us know where our best games have gone? Who will nurture the little minnows now?

PS - the last really great game I remember around here is Christmas Stories: A Nutcracker - Collector's Edition. So there!! Bah Hum Bug. LOL Merry Christmas, anyway, ya'll

Meet the new boss.

I don't want to use the word disappointed...
I guess I have such great memories of Dire Grove. It remains one of my top favorites. This game had the same scenery as Dire Grove, and that's about it.
Not a bad game but the original feeling that grabbed you in the first game is not in this one
It is obvious that the same persons that developed the first Dire Grove are not around for this one. It's just a run of the mill game to the backdrop of Dire Grove.
This may be the worst Mystery Case File ever.

I remember playing the first Dire Grove until I was too tired to keep my eyes open then played it again so many times I knew where everything was in the HOS . Just to see how quickly I could play it ! Sadly this game which I was soooo excited to see come out I bought it on the spot ! (The BOGO sale they had Friday after Thanksgiving) I play it but soon become BORED and have to stop for awhile a couple of days or so .It doesn't grab me like the first one did . I guess the original is always the best , I will finish it one day . Look on the forums of the original to how many pages it had ! Everyone was excited about that game ! The top questions were about the snowshoes and telephone number lol

Excellent Game, Mystery Case Files has produced yet another puzzling mystery, and the bonus section was also very interesting in its way of telling us who was really behind all the cold trouble in Dire Grove. I won't give too much away, but you can guess the answer if you can figure out this riddle:

Ravens and crows fly to the north, to the east, to the south and to the west, but always in the same manner, and all the stair on which they dally are forever marred.

I only thought this was okay. The puzzles are so hard. Half the time I could not figure out what to do.
I did enjoy the story.

I am so sorry. I assume BFG are looking for bigger fish to fry. The launch of any MCF game was the highlight of the year. Not any more. It's not a bad game. But I come back and to to it. Usual MCF games I was glued to my computer. Not this one.

I did really enjoy this game but totally missed the creepy, scary factor. I have to hand it to the Ravenhearst games, the shock factor, the scary, creepy where awesome. This one, although deals with Druid/Shamanism wasn't what I thought it would be.

I agree with some of the others about the puzzles. They were hard to figure out and I either used hints or ended up skipping altogether because they where just too confusing. Maybe if they were numbered somehow so you know from which one to start and how to progress.

I loved the art and the familiar surroundings. Absolutely beautiful. Music was Meh! I miss the scary music in the Ravenhearst games as well as the sound of the typewriter when you find the objects etc.

All and all liked it but was kinda disappointed and disenchanted.

I do have to add as far as comparing games though, I would rather play an MCF game than any other games.

I am so disappointed in this game. As a fan of MCF games since the first one, I was looking forward to playing this. Very disappointed...just wasn't up to MCF's quality. To think I wasted 2 credits...

A nice game. Take it as a compliment or as a verdict.....

The first Dire Grove was - imo - the best HOG ever.

This one is just .... nothing in comparison.
I am very disappointed, the best thing was to see the same locations again.
Sad it is.

So Disappointing. Snooze fest.... dull, boring. NOT MCF material...as bad as the awful MCF Shadow Lake. Was SO hoping 'lake' was just a fluke. guess not. What has happened to the good creepiness of the MCF's?

I guess it is the old saying "There is no going back" and this is one trip back to Dire Grove to many !!!
I am about halfway through the collectors edition, and I have to say I am quite enjoying it, especially the puzzles, which are very mind boggling, but I am getting through them !!!
But a MCF game it is not, it is rambling and not really well put together... but I have played worse games...

I have every MCF game , and apart from Shadow Lake have really enjoyed them all, I will make no further comments on this game until I have completed it, in the meantime I will go back to those puzzles !!!!

I guess I am missing something I thought it fit into MCF a lot more than Shadow Lake which I liked but didn't see where it really fit in to the MCF series.

The things that disappoints me is how many back and forth trips...the map helps and it makes the game longer but you do one little thing and go to the map to figure out where your going next. When you do finally find something that is a clue that leads you, your lucky if you can remember where that location is and end up using the map because it is so far back and then you return back where it was found after placing or doing that task to move on. I would much rather have more game play then travel time to make it longer.

Personally I am not impressed with the harder super games. I play casual mode to relax and give my mind some stimulation. If I wanted something more challenging I would select a higher level of play and if those super games get harder with the higher levels I would be in trouble as I was only able to do the final one using the hint button after each set. All the rest gave me a headache taking the fun out of it. I would have liked more HOS's. I like them and do enjoy the different twist in them (as long as the items aren't so small you need super sight to see them).

Over all I did have fun and hope to find out where the foe shows up next.

MCF were done by several different studios and have different visual styles, including live actors at one point. I am an Elephant Game fan and like this game. It's not scary to me though, but sometimes I felt the violence in some of the other titles a bit disturbing. This, I feel, is more of an adventure game and less of a horror story. I liked what Elephant has been doing, they've kept the look of the original games and done something new with the sequels. I also felt some of the other chapters of MCF were too difficult; the strategy guides were inadequate to get through rough spots and I had to resort to online walk troughs to get past some obstacles. At least there is a way to progress easily if you're stuck without having the scourer the internet for solutions. If you want it hard, pick the hardest setting, but some of use want to get through the story without being hung up on a difficult part.

SPOILER ALERT: I think that trying to connect all the supernatural themed MCF to Ravenhurst in some way is a m istake. I don't kow what they could possibly do for a Ravenhurst sequel, unless it's more about Victor--hopefully next years offering will be more to a larger number of players.

I cannot believe the negativity about this game. I think we all agree that MCF were going down hill fast, with the nadir undoubtedly the unplayable and dire Shadow Lake.

But to be fair, Fate's Carnival was a definite step back up, and for me this game is easily the best since the first Dire Grove and the second Ravenshurst game.

It feels like it is set in the same world as the first one, yet has enough about it that is fresh and new, that makes it enjoyable.

Personally, as long as the makers keep the feel of the original, I am not fussed who actually produces it. And after a couple of years of doubts, I will definitely be buying the next one of the day of release (unless of course it's Shadow Lake 2!!!)

I am so disappointed. I totally forgot it was that time of year again and was excited to see a sequel to Dire Grove - THE BEST GAME EVER. So I downloaded the trial and just looked around, then I bought it.
This game is so poor - most of the gameplay is talking to people and cut scenes - why am I paying good money for that?
Then there is the scope of the game - the original game seemed huge - this game is so confined - couldn't even go upstairs in the hotel!
There were virtually no HOS and those idiotic multi puzzles are awful - again the original Dire Grove had great puzzles, and plenty of them.
And finally - where are my morphing objects - NO I don't want nine very obvious houses - I want loads and loads like before - maybe game developers aren't speaking to gamers but the morphing objects in the original was a huge bonus to the game.
So I bought this last Sunday in the late afternoon and had finished it that evening. The first one entertained me for the whole four day Thanksgiving weekend.
Really don't understand what qualifies this as a Collectors Edition.

+I also am disappointed in this game, but lately there are a lot of games that I am disappointed in !! Sill me didnt even try this before I bought it just went on the MCF title. I am finding stopping and talking to animated figures really distracting. Sadly after many years of Big Fish games I am cancelling my membership. There also were no actual lists of hidden objects to find, I found this a bit odd .
