I hear you, but, I confess that one of the things I liked most was that there were no voiceovers. The acting is usually so bad that I just want to skip ahead, but, this was a good story and I was happy to read it for myself and imagine the voices, as I would have it it were a book.

I just finished this game and I thought it was pretty decent. It's definitely not the same as RTR, but then again I haven't found another game quite like that one!

I thought the story line was really well done and the graphics were fantastic. I think this is definitely a game I'll be playing again. I was happy to see that the ending hinted that there would be more of these to come, so I'm looking forward to that.

That one was tough for me. With no instructions I was no sure what to do. I didn't know where I was on the maps. I got a Hint for the first one and tried to figure it out from there. I eventually got it but then forgot again as I moved on.

This game was so much fun for me. Plenty long enough, a bit visually dark at times but I was able see all the objects and even in cluttered scenes when I thought, oh great, I was able to find objects with no problem. Not the hardest game I ever played but it was so enjoyable and it's nice not to get frustrated for a change. I can't wait to play it again.

Thank BFG for another great game.

I just played the demo, and was doing fine until I came to the "wire piece" in the graveyard. I found wire cutters, and tried them on the spool of wire, but nothing happened. I used up three raven hints, thinking I could pinpoint where to use the cutters, and each time the raven flew a circle around the spool of wire, but I still couldn't get the wire piece. So I decided to exit, but then my cursor froze. Thought I was going to have to cold boot, because I had used Ctrl/Alt/Del about three times, and couldn't exit the game. Finally it exited, and I saw I had 18 minutes left in the demo. Don't know if I will go back to it, or just delete it. Maybe I could redownload, but don't know if that would help. I did think the graphics were beautiful, and was enjoying the gravestone-rubbing, but if it's going to freeze on me like that, I don't want to bother.

I really love this game too. What a difference good music makes!!! - so much more enjoyable. The hidden objects are a little too easy, but can't fault much else. Certainly has kept me interested. Very happy with it and Department 42 - both great games.

Have tried to play the game a couple of times, but when I leave the game and come back the profile is currupt and I have to start over. Anyone else have this issue?

There seems to be a lot of that going around. I'm waiting for BF to announce that a new version is available before playing it again. First time, that I recall, having a technical problem with a BF game. Dang, and it is a great game. Too bad this one issue is stopping so many from enjoying it.

You have to follow the direction of the arrows on the little piece of paper on the screen, starting at the lit up blue square ... for example, 1 square to the right, then 2 squares down, then 6 squares left, etc. ... then click on the tile you land on.

Comments:
Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allen Poe Conspiracy is a dark mystery set around the life and works of Edgar Allen Poe. This game has some amazing artwork and level design, and the gameplay never left me wanting. The controls are smooth, and the mini games have enough variety to keep you on your toes. The storyline is engaging, taking you through both the events of Edgar Allen Poe’s life as well as several of his tales and how they may relate to his ultimate demise. You are led by Poe himself through all of this, in ghostly form. You will also meet the shades of a few of his literary characters, whose stories may be closer to real life tales of terror than anyone realized. Midnight Mysteries appears to be the first in a series, and if the rest are as good as this first one, I am definitely interested in trying out the next!

Genre:
Hidden Object, with some puzzle elements.

Game Modes:
Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allen Poe Conspiracy contains an untimed mode only.

Depth:
This is average for a Hidden Object game. Prepare for several hours of gameplay.

Excellent for newcommers and experienced players. Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allen Poe Conspiracy isn't too difficult to frustrate, but it still provides a challenge to the seasoned player.

I have only played half of the demo hour and am a bit disappointed. It wasn't "grabbing" me for some reason. Not challenging enough, basically predictable. A strange concept for me due to the fact that I give up too easily and I become too frustrated. I am going to give it the full hour. We'll see...........

I do have to say the graphics are great and I love "dark" story lines.

Maybe I am getting burnt out on Hidden Object/large file....?!?!? HOPE NOT!!!!

Sorry, but I found this game quite a let-down after all the hype. I loved both the Ravenhurst games (although they did include a fair amount of that annoying acting mentioned in an earlier post) and Hidden in Time was spectacular, so I might have had my sights set a bit high for Poe (one of my favorite authors). It does hook you right away in the demo, especially with the promise of "writing the story," but it fails to deliver overall if you're looking for any kind of challenge or depth of play. (Even at a quick pace of play, the demo "just happens" to end while you're still deep in solving the first mystery; arrgh, hooked again!)

As far as game play, finding objects was too often too easy; there were very few puzzles, all of which were basically spelled out for you (I hate being spoon-fed solutions); and it was completed very quickly. I think I ended up with 20+ hints left, and would have had more except I started using them to see if anything else would happen. There are only three interrelated "mysteries" centered on Poe's stories, with 3-4 levels on each, so it was definitely a mid-range game in terms of time and depth.

That being said, it was very entertaining to play and watch, but probably designed more toward the beginner or low intermediate level than an experienced one. It was enjoyable to play, but I wish I'd have gone into it with the mindset that it was more a game of checkers than of chess - I may not have been quite as disappointed. It would be nice if there were rankings on these games for number of levels, average time for completion, and suggested player level for puzzles (beginner through expert). In fact, I'd love to see a few games based solely around puzzles like those in Hidden in Time, Ravenhurst, and Escape from Rosecliff Island (another great game in terms of getting your money's worth).

I played the hour and that was enough. Uninstalled it because it was boring.
I've just rediscovered Azada though and what a good game that is.
I'm glad to see they have used my suggestion of putting the link to the game on the game discussion pages.

After downloading a few games , I think I will wait for more Mystery Case File games. The rest are either too boring or childish.

I had the same problem as Ping1234. My profile data was corrupted and was deleted. I started the game over 4 times with different player names. I have had a lot of problems with the last 4 games I have bought. The tech said with one of them to make sure all the drivers are updated, etc. I tried to do that and had to stop because I didn't know what I was doing, so I guess from now on I will just be doing the demos and no more buying. Hopefully I can get through one of them.
