I am getting nowhere with this game

I have just paid for this game and wish I hadn’t because I am getting absolutely nowhere with it and have loads of problems.

I am in Hope Springs with Maureen and no way can I get enough food and my people are leaving. I am down to 6 people and four of them are working on two farms and still the food doesn’t grow more than 3 or 4 and that soon disappears, to say nothing of the man who expects me to give him 40.

I have a well but never seem to get more than 10 water. One of the farms has a water icon which I am presuming means it needs water but how do I get it some. Even my timber only grows at snails pace.

I need all the help I can get please.
