need tips for playing battles

I really liked the game. Yes, it shut down 3 times but I just started it again so no big deal for me. I would like tips on being able to win all the battles. I'm getting better at them but still have a few to beat! Any help?

I personally tried to put 4-5 small elementals to get 2-3 bigger elementals...
Just try to put 2 pcs - a gap - 2 pcs in a row. And then fiil in the gap with the fifth elemental.
Then you get 3 (!!!) bigger elementals

Alongside, I tried to prevent the enemy to do the same. Also I used bonus abilities every time they refill before I move the elemental and fire at the enemy's.
