Why does the time needed for crops to grow go up?

[Post New]by duncdunc on Nov 7, 09 7:45 AM
When I started out, it took 60 minutes on fast. Now its taking 90 or higher to grow. I have 4000 food, so I'm good for a while...

Maybe you have progressed so that isn't your only food source? I don't think I checked on the time before harvest. But one tip I learned, if one starts to water the garden let him, but it will grow whether watered or not. If you want the villager to work on farming points for masters let him continue. But if you need him to help with another project just drag him away, wasting time. I've had full crops come up when nobody planted or watered at all. Or, if I have someone I want to train and there isn't anything to pick, I drag them over to plant or water. I used to drag everyone over to plant when the garden looked dormant.

Shouldn't have to worry with 4000 depending on the population. Hmmm maybe it does take longer without planting or watering.

Like those builders doing laundry. Even a master scientist will leave the job and do laundry for no points. Drives me nuts. How do they even know that chore? I never trained anyone to do laundry.

That is my current Food supply, but my children pick up enough mushrooms that should keep my population alive with no other source, but now its gone down to 70 minutes to grow. When I have nothing to do with my builders (I have 3 Masters), I teach them other things. One is an esteemed elder, and 1 master on farming, and the other on research. I have Completed every puzzle except 7, 8, 10, and 11.

Good going duncdunc!! Isn't getting elders fun? That's what I missed on VV3 , the totems. This game is still so much fun after my first play and learned better how to plan ahead and do things in a certain order. But even first time I managed to get 53 totems, then found out there are only 50 available. Poor gals and guys worked so hard, then no trophy, just said Esteemed Elder by their name. Once there then I uncheck all tasks on their Detail, they earned their retirement, like to swim but still pitch in on their own when a project to do. Old folks I like to keep at science, less physical for their arthritis? So slow walking, but amazing how many still want to go fishing. I'm for that

Oh 3 MBuiders? Have you got them to get the crate on the beach? Forgot what number puzzle that is. Now I get that done early in the game after a building project becuse poor planning, my first time by the end there was nothing to build but fix cabins, then one died. Thought I'd NEVER get 3 at a time.

I'm so hungry to start another village now but on overload looking for games for Novemberfest. I read that VV4 is about 75% done, maybe first of year for that and BF will have it probably week or so after release. Can't wait!

I opened that crate and got the piece of the gong, then an hour later, one of my master builders died. I have unlocked level two of every single thing in tech, except farming which I just got level 3. Unlimited Fishing! I have got all pieces of the gong, except the one you need to put a totem pole in the ancient place... I haven't got the tech to uncover that yet. I haven't completed puzzle 8, 10, 11, or 14 (Last piece of gong) But my population is 10, only 1 child, and my adapt parents are doing everything but having baby's... which is a problem for me... again...
My elderly part of the population is all fishing, except for one which refuses to do any thing but research. My Elder is elderly, and I am trying to get the last level of Medicine, and he will live longer. I have 6800 food. (How did it get so high??) And I have one farmers who refuses to fish, and he looks after the garden.

Enjoying your updates, and feeling your ups and downs. Sounds like you need to build an extra cabin before pop can increase? On no, wait,up to 17. That's a good number, I try to never get over 20. No need to do food, you need builders to clear the ancient wall or circle (which is where the final gong piece is). I'd leave highest scientists working on points and everyone else piled on the circle, you'll get more adept or MS builders. Then put on FAST while making a team to uncover the mosaic. By now you know you have to manage it to keep builders from wandering off. Any who balk, put them back on research. No need to fish or farm unless you are trying to get a Mfarmer to be Esteemed Elder.

I am constantly switching their jobs on their details to get them to join a team to do other things Did you uncheck your parents when pop gets too high? That mosaic takes forever but keep those tech points coming to buy higher levels, forgot which one for the mosaic, maybe you do have to do the wall of vines first (?)

I pace new baby as soon as I see one reaching age 12 to replace it at 14 because those little tots can bring in more tech points for duplicate collectibles faster than a major scientist can, but won't happen if you aren't on top of things. AND make them wear dirty clothes LOL. When one wanders to "Excercise" I yell at them WORK is exercise - Drag PLOP. Just don't plop too close to the opposite sex or pop goes up LOL.

ps I haven't had time to start a new village, shopping demos for NovFest, but you keep making me "hungry" for another group of little people friends.

If you have a master farmer and fishing, that's how food can grow so high, only the MFs can bring in crabs, think that's about 45 food pts? I'd stop all farming and go for tech points or building project. Elders are so versitile, can help out anywhere. . Have you been lucky ennough to get a "runner"? One who never stops running like a tot after 14? They do everything in double time and I had one practically uncover that mosaic and the dam on their own with little help. Then at some point laater in life they quit running.

What is so interesting about this game, (or how my mind works) is how one day I'm working with one or two to get ahead in a field, then suddenly I have to switch and get everyone off individual progress and into group progress, what is good for the whole. But I get attached to those few and take them back out of the project when so close to masters. I think scientists MS faster than other jobs like building, because it takes less time to complete that task and back at it. I do allow food or drink breaks (unless abusing the privelege) but can't see health goes down not eating. I KNOW they are eating as the food supply counts down, no grazing LOL.

Hello Again Puzzledone. Here are my current Statistics
Tech Points 5?
Food 12000
Population 17
I have Level two of Culture, Research, and Exploration. Rest is level 3
Puzzles: Same as last Post
No I have not got a runner yet, but I got a 16 year old who did nothing but acted like a kid, still could pick up collectibles. Started working at age 17. The first day I had Unlimited fishing, (all I had where masters) brought in a lot of crabs! (I didn't know you could catch them at that time!) I had all my scientist (All 8 of them) Working on a 'No break' shift. Wouldn't let them leave. But The food count still went down. For the parenting, I selected a female to be a parent (Can't go under 17 right now, so working as a scientist), So I only had one female pregnant at a time. The hospital is under construction with 1 adapt builder, and another hut is under construction with a trainee worker. I have two farmers, one adapt and one master that refuses to do anything else. She also likes Whale Meat??? When she turned 14 (Overnight) I looked and saw her as a farmer. Is it possible for likes to influence with jobs. Meaning they pick their own jobs? I leave it on fast all day, over night I put it on Normal. 242 hours played.

At one of the levels (?) they start being born with some points already in some job, inherited from their parents, as a preference. Maybe 2 scientists's offspring will go to tech on their own with no training. But I still take a 14 yr old around to learn each job if they will, then back to their chosen field. That way once mastered it's easier to get them over on a second field to progress. I also take each new one to all 6 herbs to see if a future doctor. Maybe it is better not to get them well rounded soon in the game and just do their chosen one. I've had 14 yea olds immediately start building a cabin for instance, already trained.

Haven't had one of those grown tots, but to pay for that runner, I later had 2 born who were only able to walk half time or slower, like they had a disability. Soooo slow, so made them techies or have babies not to have to walk so much. One kept wanting to go fishing, oh my, took forever getting to the ocean and back but I let her to her pleasure. Then came in handy on the ancient mosaic.

I usually take a liking to one or two more, don't know why, probably the ones who don't goof off or sass me back LOL. I try to name them for looks or habits, but last time I kept getting same clothes and carrot red hair on everybody and so hard to find who I wanted. I wish you could buy new clothes for them very early since I want to tell them apart or match their personalities. On VV1 you could hit F6 and change clothes, don't' think that worked on VV2. I ran out of names for red and pink dresses.

I didn't know about crabs either til my first game and an Event wiped out my whole food supply!! Then I saw one come out of the water with a strange red thing, he did a happy dance and food grew fast. I got so excited cheering him, not every try but OMG another started it. I didn't realize they had to be master farmers but they sure saved the day in a hurry, along with mushrooms we made it thru. Normally for pop up to 16 I keep food at 200 while all hands are on deck for tech pts or need another MFarmer. Once food is up and I have a MF I know I can put him back for crabs if needed. There are points in all games I still remember the excitement or the sudden downers and have to help getting out of trouble. Who needs TV??

Oh, one thing to watch when that hospital is finished. There is a glitch, a line above the roof of it where they can get stuck and wander back and forth in a loop forever unless you unstick them. Another spot with bug is in the hospital, can't seem to get out or make it around the corner back to anywhere. It's a real pain cuz if not watching you don't know how long they've gone in circles. Other spots like that in the village too.

So last time, I discouraged them working on it altho the foundation was there from a higher med level. If I needed more builders I kept them up on cabins to keep an eye on them. Then left hospital for after the ancient mosaic just for trimmings since they can heal anywhere. Never had many actually go down there on their own, then had to drag a doc there, then watch that they both got out of that death trap.

I come Check on my game, the random event 'the flood' Wiped out 12000 of my food supply.Dropped a whole bunch of scientist on fishing temperately. 750 food isn't all on top of my massive pile! When they inherit points, they may not like their job. Like I got a tot that has inherited farming points, but it says on dislikes. Fish and Coconuts. I can't stop playing this all day! Its such a fun game! I'll post another statistic count this afternoon.

Statistics:
Tech Points 75500
Food 13000
Population 17
Every thing but Science and exploration at level 3
Completed the Hospital! Next Hut constructed!
Most of my people are reconstructing the mosaic, I can't cut the vines on the walls down! Is the wall next to the gong encasement? No children, villagers too busy. Only two males are elderly at 70 or something like that... have them uncovering the mosaic. Mosaic only at 12% finished... I am currently trying some new games too! My favorite is still this game!
Looking back to another tribe I found. Dead at 12 hours. I am successful because of these forums! Thanks for those tips you've given me in the forums. Helps a lot!
