G.H.O.S.T Chronicles: Phantom for Mac

[Post New]by ccb508 on Nov 24, 09 6:40 PM
I seem to be missing dialog with my game; wondering if any others having the same problem and what the solution might be.

I click on characters and a dialog box appears, but only shows two lines. I'm missing some of the story!

Do the characters talk out loud? Mine will only say things after the initial conversation, and only if I click on them two or three times. For instance, the woman at the candle shop will only speak "the candle is on sale for six dollars" after I've seen the message displayed, and click on her two or three more times.

The game starts in windowed mode and I always make it full screen. (Who plays hidden object games in window? ) Maybe it's the full screen that makes the dialog not work properly??

I'm really enjoying this game. Having all the story will only make it better!

Thanks!

Hi

I have just downloaded the trial for mac and I am having the same problem. Are you getting the background music as well? I have the music switched to on in the menu but it disappears not long into the game. Is this normal? It was only after seeing your post that I realised the lady in the bakery spoke! As you say you have to click a few times to get audio dialogue. I had trouble changing the help option in the menu screen as well.

Maybe the mac version is having a few teething troubles. Has it just come out on mac?

I have only played just over 30 mins but I am loving it so far so will probably get it.

I was just logging on to say that I don't have background music either... glad I'm not alone.

I did buy the game and finished it. That's when I saw the credits with the voice actors, so there must be more speaking going on that we're missing.

Another thing I had trouble with during the last sequence of the game is that the map won't appear. I click on map from the menu and nothing appears to work.. there's no map, and the menu button doesn't respond; there are no directional arrows to move. After I finally started dragging the mouse all around did the commands from the map magically appear on the screen so I could click and exit the invisible map.

Even with this problem, the game is very enjoyable and certainly worth a credit. Hope they can fix it so we can get the full enjoyment out of it!

I should also mention that I'm running this on a Mac with OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard), 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I have audio with other applications, so it's not that I have the speakers off (not that I haven't done that before!)

Thanks for the heads up on the map.

I have snow leopard now and have had no problems with any other games so far, so I don't think it is the new software if you are still on Leopard. I am also 2.4gh intel core 2.
I did try to buy this game in the Felix sale as it was advertised as being part of Felix's favourite on the main mac page yesterday. I didn't see it listed on the main felix page though. Now it has completely gone from the main page being replaced with Mirror Mirror in the bottom right hand corner. I think they mucked up somewhere!

I have been downloading and trying a few games while the sale is on but I hope to get it and finish it at some point as it looks good. Just a shame there are a few teething problems. I am installing windows on bootcamp soon so I might even get the windows version! Do you use bootcamp at all?

Happy gaming!

Gosh, no! I had been on Windows since forever and was really tired of all the problems I was having. I wanted my move to Mac to be totally committed/clean, and it's been working out great. If I was still employed, however, I'd either have to keep a PC around or run bootcamp. But then I wouldn't have all this time to play BFGames!

Good luck with bootcamp!

To Lady Gooner, ccb 508 and other Mac fishies...same here! I bought the game after playing a few minutes because the graphics were so attractive, only to find that the audio for both the characters and music were not functioning plus the dialog balloons did not change past the first paragraph. If I attempted to click on either the character or text balloon to see if that could help, the scene just progressed into the next step with no way of returning. Wahh!
I'm running OS 10.5 on a Dual Core Intel iMac and have QuickTime 7.6. I also double checked my audio to make sure everything was on and up to normal volume. it's probably a bug in the Mac port of this game. Time to let the QA guys know so hopefully somebody can start fixing it!

Oh, and LadyGooner, I use Bootcamp with VMWare Fusion and find it much more conveinent to use than just Bootcamp alone. It allows you to open Windows any time during a Mac session without having to close down and reboot. It also lets you have shared folders on both desktops and to minimize the Windows view to work on Mac stuff, then bring it back up whenever you need it again, all without having to restart. Well worth the price of the software, IMO. There's a small learning curve involved to get the USB ports, audio, etc. to "talk" to Windows, but again, well worth the effort.

Many thanks Serf2CavSpaniel for your input. I will be using either fusion or parallels with windows and plan on only using just bootcamp when I have to. I did want to try some of the Nancy Drew games but they only seem to be available on windows. I have heard that because of the large file size that they play best on bootcamp booted into windows. It will be a bit of a learning curve but it will be great to have the best of both worlds! I love the mac OS and have got used to it very quickly. It would be a shame to miss out on some great games just because they are only available for windows.
