gun help what do I do with it please

I have got the unloaded gun and am standing in the hall, I was stuck so clicked on hint and it ringed the gun and the mallet, BUT have tried all sorts with these 2 and I am now stuck

Looks like you need to ignore the hint button. Try the map and see if there is another area that has something to do.
