IHOG- Nightfall Mysteries: Curse of the Opera
HOG- Sleepy Hollow

my favorites change all the time. It all depends on what I am playing at the moment.

Welcome to the pond!

Other good ones are
IHOG- Return to Ravenhearst and Dire Grove
HOG- Mishap: an accidental haunting and Madame Fate

Thanks Sage, I have them both. I am looking for a new game and those are my favorite types of games.

What is your favorite Large File Adventure Game?

Your welcome. I just started Sweeny Todd and so far it seems pretty good.

My first favorite is large file adventure games but IHOG and HOG are a close second since I have found this site.

Before Madame Fate came Prime Suspects this was a very good game if you haven't played it yet I would try it.

Have you done The Fall Trilogy and Green Moon? I thought both were great.

nw143 did you buy either game? I am looking for something along the line of an IHOG. I think I have either purchased or tried every HOG game here. I can't decided between Return to Ravenhurst or Nightfall Mysteries Curse of the Opera is my favorite.

I bought both. If you haven't played them, Green Moon is pure adventure and Trilogy is IHOG. I haven't bought Nightfall yet. Maybe later.

I love the Nancy Drew games. They run the gamut from fairly simple to extremely challenging. I think the very best Adventure game is: ND The Haunting of Castle Malloy. Challenging! And it has the sheep shearing, which is more fun than it really should be for a 40-year-old woman. Also love The Curst of Blackmoor Manor - really the most visually fun - with the fancy manor house and it's secrets! Two other big favorites are Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake and White Wolf of Icicle Creek - of the two I liked Ghost Dogs best, because it was more puzzle-y. I'm working on Legend of the Crystal Skull now, but just talking about Blackmoore and Castle Malloy make me want to stop and play them again right now! Haven't started Waverly Academy and am excited for Big Fish to get the very newest that just came out: Trail of the Twister. Of the older ones (and usually simpler) Shadow Ranch, The Final Scene and Deception Island I liked the best. But then I live near the setting of Deception Island, so... I'm a little biased I suspect. Most of all, try the hints at the Universal Hint System website - it's a million times better than a walkthrough because it gives you hints and you never get too much info at a time that can spoil the game. Really outstanding site. Happy sleuthing!

I'm really into adventure games right now, myself. If you like adventure games, you might consider trying the large file games without the hidden objects, I have played and recommend the following.

Syberia
Syberia 2
Dracula Origin
Dracula 3 Path of the Dragon
Nostradamus The Last Prophecy
Destination Treasure Island
Return to Mysterious Island 1
Return to Mysterious Island 2
The Secrets of Da Vinci
Voyage
Chronicles of Mystery Scorpio Ritual
Echo: Secret of the Lost Cavern
Murder on the Orient Express
Cleopatra: A Queen's Destiny
Egypt III: The Fate of Ramses
NiBiRu Age of Secrets

Definitely a value for the money, imho, as they can take days to complete.

what is IHOG?

'return to ravenhearst' was my first HOG game & now i feel spoiled - the other MCF games aren't as good (played them all) & syberia is HORRIBLE - a real snore. 'edgar allan poe' is amateur hour & what's her name - nicole bonnet - 'art of murder' (all 3 games) - lotsa runnning around for nothing. 'agatha christie' is the same - clunky graphics & no action.

i'm curious about nancy drew & sherlock holmes.

i seriously think the 'law & order' series is VERY underrated, though not HOG exactly, mysterious & fun & realistic - if you screw up the investigation or the trial, you screw up - like life. 'CSI las vegas' was GREAT for a long crime game - 5 cases to solve, but 'CSI NY' blew.

long story long, i'm looking for longform, crime, adventure, mystery, HOG, puzzle games with excellent graphics & realistic (not wizards & fairies) characters.

AGAIN - WHAT IS IHOG?
thanks!

Best IHOG: Return to Ravenhearst
Best HOG: Madame Fate
Best Adventure Game: Broken Sword; Shadow of the Templars

I have chosen these three as they are the best example in their category.
They are all highly replayable, all take a long time to complete and all have excellent storylines as well as brilliant artwork!

IHOG stands for:

Interactive Hidden Object Game

It means that there are hidden object scenes, but also scenes where you pick up items to use later and to solve puzzles.

Return to Ravenhearst is an IHOG game
Madame Fate is a straight HOG

hope this helps
